I’m so excited to take my ASL 1 class next semester that I started looking for lessons online, and I found yours! Thank you Dr. Vicars for making these lessons accessible, free, and easy to understand. Most of the lessons I’ve found online are from hearing people, but according to my American Deaf Culture professor, they often sign with a heavy English accent/in SEE, so I was thrilled to find your videos. I think I’ll buy your lessons once I save up a bit. Thank you for all that you do! :-)

There is a YouTube shorts creator who is deaf and does a lot of song covers and videos related to her deafness and in one video she recommended many sways to learn sign for free from the start, she recommended you first of all. Now I know why. I’ll be practicing and trying to learn as much as I can. Thank you for releasing these videos to YouTube because this is a great free resource. I’ll be watching and rewatching a lot I think.

I've been wondering for so long how to count past 9 in ASL! Thanks so much for the video! All other basic ASL numbers videos never go past 9, so thank you for explaining the rest.

Dr. Vicars, I adore your videos. My son is DHH and I have learned so much from watching your videos. Do you have a video on science signs? Like.. matter, gas, properties etc? Also, writing vocabulary like.. main character, foreshadowing, empathy for the book character, point of view etc? Thank you for all that you do. You are educational and also funny! Take care, brandy

I never realized the emphasis spoken through body language. Even not knowing asl, in my head I’m putting words to your expressions as if they were never needed to begin with

My kiddo has hyperacusis so sometimes just regular conversation including the sound of their own voice can be painful. These videos have been so helpful in giving them an alternative method of communication.

Not sure if you still check these comments (no worries if not!) but if you see this, I have a little question about 3:35. Based on your expressions, I’m wondering if it’s considered silly/too formal to tap the fingers in a normal conversation? If so, when would it be appropriate to use the tapping motion? These vids are great, best I’ve found - love how they include someone actually learning. Thanks to you both!

Hi, I took ASL in college and loved it. Now I want to review and learn more. I love your explanation of the slighlty different ways numbers can be signed. I just don't understand the use of the "emphasized numbers". When is it appropriate to use it in conversations?
