One hundred & eight years, same family. What a legacy! What an emblem of the American Dream, or what it once was. It was the mom & pops that fueled this great country at one now. Now, it’s like you have a better chance at being struck by lightning thrice than surviving as a startup mom & pop.

My grandad came back from WWII and opened a hardware store in Forest, Mississippi. Just a bit later he would open these little stores, like a tiny Big Lots, and call it Fred’s. My uncle on the other side of the family came back and opened a pizza joint called The Pizza Place in Vernon, TX. He would expand and at his store in Stephenville, TX. He started a competition to rename the restaurants (he had many pizza stores by this point) and a patron suggested he rename it to his wife’s, my aunt, maiden name - Gatti.

Those days are over, starting up a small restaurant and making it? Whether you decide to stay small, build in your community and make a beautiful living, or go big and trail the map with your name? Forget it, dang near impossible. So, we cherish these small family owned businesses that have survived and still churning 100+ years later!

Pressured into an 8.1. I would’ve given it an 8.1 w/o hesitation. 😂😂😂

The bonus hairline review made O'Scugnizzo Pizzeria a 9.2 because I haven’t seen one since. Only in Utica New York, everybody knows the rules. 😉

I can't believe you made it to Utica and Oscugnizzo!

That actually makes sense. If pizza culture and recipes now are great, it's only because they stood on the shoulders of the originals. Everybody knows the rules

As someone from Utica I appreciate this review.

Love a tomato pie with grated cheese. When I go get Apizza I always order a small one along with whatever my other pie is that night and eat it on the ride home.
