The historical context of Nelson choosing to record this particular song with O’Connor when she had essentially been blackballed should be noted. For me, it’s not about comparing it to the original recording, but about one rebel reaching out to another and sending out a message both of solidarity and resilience.

She is not just singing. She is feeling the song. She is the music. Rest In Peace. ❤

Sinead, I miss you. A woman with courage when rage and truth were criminalized and banned. Thanks for this song

Lord- it doesn’t matter what comes out of her mouth, it brings tears to my eyes. We lost a legend. May she sing in peace eternal.

I remember my dad listening to this song (the original) on the radio as a kid. I didn't know at the time that he was in the midst of his most suicidal bout of depression. This song may have saved his life. I am so grateful to say that he's an old man now, though you wouldn't know it from looking at him, and he is living his best life. He loves to cycle, mountain bike, garden, and explore in the woods with my nephew. Gratitude doesn't say enough.

This blew me away. The words, the voices and the simplicity create such emotion. The ending with the reggae beat, then the trumpet in the background makes you wish it didn’t have to end. Not just the song, but the clear, soft voice of Sinead we won’t hear from again. RIP and long live Willie.

Sinead was an Outlaw. Willie understood that. Imagine Sinead working 'with Waylon and Willie and the boys'... I miss her.

I love the way Nelson and O'Connor's voices contrast with each other and flow together near the end.
Music like this really moves your heart in ways simple words can never do.

Wow why has it taken the loss of this poor painful soul for me to get here and hear this. Two free spirits merge into one to recreate what was already a classic and take it to another stratasphere rip Sinead. xx
