Cillian Murphy is just as overdue! Been turning out extraordinary performances for 30 years! So let’s throw out that determiner of award -worthiness. Giamatti’s performance is wonderful, and in any other year, he would no doubt win. But Murphy carries an intense 3 hr epic drama with a subtle versatility that is so much more difficult to pull off. And imo opinion, lovable as an actor he is, Giamatti is playing Giamatti, no stretch. I will be so upset if SAG votes sentiment and narrative over most powerful leading performances.

If Paul Giamatti deserves a Lifetime Achievement Award, then by all means give him such, but don’t use the Best Actor Award for that purpose. It would be seriously unfair to deny Cillian Murphy the statuette for what has been recognised as a singular performance in favour of Paul Giamatti’s turn in The Holdovers which, to be honest, is just more of Paul Giamatti being Paul Giamatti. Ι actually don’t understand how The Holdovers or the lead performance came to be nominated, although I do acknowledge that Giamatti is a fine actor, and I genuinely wish him well.

Another reason I’m hoping Oppenheimer wins best ensemble is because I want to see everyone in that group get a best statue. I just the Oppenhomies😊

I have a feeling that BAFTA and Oscar will (at least mostly) agree this year. The key difference between last year and this year are the voting deadlines. Oscar final voting for winners last year began AFTER SAG, which explains why Oscars and SAG agreed 100% last year. This time around, Oscars final voting is occurring earlier (it in fact begins tomorrow) and SAG will take place in the middle of that.

Paul already has 4 SAG awards!!! I love the guy but does he need a 5th?
I dislike the due narrative as an excuse for anyone to win. Cillian should be winning this year for his staggering performance instead of Paul because he’s Paul Giamatti whom I think did give a familiar performance. He’s always fantastic I can’t dispute that nor would I want too but I didn’t walk away from The Holdovers thinking “my god I’ve never seen Paul Giamatti like that before.”
I did that with Cillian. Let’s let the layered, complex, nuanced, internalised yet exposed performance win one!! GO CILLIAN!!!

Just rewatched anatomy of a fall and I’m baffled that Sandra is not the clear front runner and I’m annoyed that milo didn’t get a nod just because he’s a child, if anything it makes it more impressive

Lily Gladstone NEEDS TO HAPPEN. The Academy has one shot they better not mess this up. Deadass I really wouldn’t be mad if Paul won best actor here he was phenomenal in “The Holdovers” an under appreciated character actor. Da’vine has that Oscar in the bag.

There are so many great movies and performances in 2023 so I want a true race going to the Oscars. So I am rooting for Paul Giamatti, Lily Gladstone / Annettee Benning, and the cast of Flower Moon. I'm sticking with Randolph and RDJ b/c their wins are inevitable and so well deserved - they are bigger slam dunks than the leading categories.

Luke, who is in the Oppenheimer ensemble? How many? I am surprised David Krumholtz wasn’t nominated anywhere. Or Jason Clarke. But there isn’t a single weak performance in the film so I guess it’s just an embarrassment of riches. I am pulling soooo hard for the Oppenhomies. I have never felt such an affection for a cast as I do with them! 🥰
