U could have use capital letters while talking about cone and use small letters while talking about frustum. e.g H, h L, l... etc that makes it quite easy to understand it.

Why did you bother bringing in the slant height when it is not used in the derivation?

Assuming the height of smaller cone as h1 makes the calculations a bit simpler. Just a thought :)
