I'm happy I ride a rigid single speed. None of this pomp and circumstance needed.

I never check sag. I adjust pressure off of feeling. I ride then I make adjustments at lunch. If I had to guess I run 10% sag on my enduro bike fork and 15% in the rear. Sag is personal preference so unless your checking just to remember what you run or so you can adjust it back after fork repairs/adjustments there's no reason to care about exact sag %. If you are doing it so you don't forget how you like the bike set up, it is better just to wrire down the fork/shock psi because that is easier to check. The only time I would ever actually use sag is for setting up a complete beginners bike or if I were to sell rental bikes.

This base sag reading is just a suggested number from manufacter or lbs. I run a MUCH greater sag cause i want a plusher ride at low speed. High speed is controlled by the setting.

Dont scratch the fork with these sharp pointy caliper tips.

you dont need a caliper to gauge a % lol. I get racers wanting an exact measurement, but mostt normal people can eyeball 15-20% no problem. to be honest, the only measurement that I write down is air pressure and rebound clicks

What’s the best way to do this if your bike doesn’t have the o ring?

Can a coil fork that has rebound only setting have sag naturally? I would like it to have because I'm buying a 160mm for a hardtail and it's a bit much, but I doubt that it will have sag.

And once you have the percentage, what’s next?

What about heavy ebike that preloads the sag a few mm, do we lift up the bike to extend the fork fully and then read the length ?

Do NOT touch the sharp caliper tips on the fork stanchion!!! It can scratch that coating!! Just get the caliper tips close without touching the stanchion

I'm getting heavy Letti from Fast And Furious vibes and it's so edgy and cute at the same time! 👐🏾

Solid info for folks just getting into mountain biking!
