Hey everyone! Today I have a hands-on review of 3 small and lightweight lenses from Sigma for Sony E Mount and L Mount. I will be using the Sigma 45mm f2.8, 35mm f2 & 24mm f3.5 on the Sony A7IV for photography and on the Sony A7sIII to test the performance of these lenses for video. Let me know what you think of them and my photos in the comments!

I loaned these 3 Sigma lenses from C.R Kennedy. This video is not sponsored, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

These Sigma lenses are superb - not only do they deliver optically, they feel superb in use - until you have handled one of these you honestly will not appreciate how amazingly solid they feel - full metal construction, fantastic aperture ring and excellent focus ring with amazing metal hoods, they are a complete pleasure to use and so compact compared to 1.4 and 1.2 versions - they should be getting more love really - they are a street photographer's dream IMHO

35mm images looked especially amazing. More compact primes are always welcome too!

I have the 40mm 2.5, 45mm 2.8 and 50mm 2.5 G as well. They are all great. The 40 and 50 are sharper wide open than the 45mm Sigma. However, the Sigma's OOF rendering is freakishly smooth. It's strength is mid aperture bokeh. stopped down and up close shots, nothing touches it. I would argue the haptics are better than the G series 2.5's but I like Sony's lens hood design better (practically speaking). The Sony 2.5's have a hard and slim aperture ring that doesn't always feel so great on the fingers (leaves indents as well). If you check out Fredmiranda, he cites the 45mm Sigma as one of the best lenses for the system you can buy for smooth bokeh. It really is hard to compete with it. It is also a bit soft though wide open under 3 meters and doesn't do so well with strong back lighting. When it hits though it's amazing.

Hi Julia! When do you think your 65mm review will be ready? I cannot choose between 65 and 85 focal length and would love to see your opinion about it :)

Thank you for the video. I always like your videos; they are informative and unpretentious. Of these, I have the 45mm, which I have mixed feelings about. Sometimes I’m really happy with the results; sometimes I think I should go back to using my manual focus ZM50 with adapter. I recently bought the 65mm. I had hesitated because it’s a bit of an odd focal length, and it is bigger and heavier than the 45mm and the 90mm. But I had seen good examples of photogs taken with it, and Sigma Canada had a mini-sale on it. I’m really glad I got it. My favourite of the lenses I have in the contemporary series is the 90mm F2.8. Although I don’t think it is as sharp as the Sony 85mm F1.8, I like the look it gives, the out of focus look, and the transition from in-focus to out-of focus. It is amazingly compact, about the same size as the 45mm!

Love the 24mm 3.5. It's my daily carry lens and has a ridiculously close minimum focusing distance for near macro shots. Small sharp and light.

I have been waiting for you to do a video on the sigma "i" series for almost 2 years! I am glad you finally did one. I look forward to your review of the 65mm f2 and 50mm f2. Please tell us how you like them compare to the comparable Sony lenses

this is such a helpful review! i just purchased the 35mm f2 since i knew it wasn't realistic to use my 35mm 1.4 for canon with an adapter on my tiny a7c. love how your photos turned out!

Hi Julia,

Sigma I-series is probably the best photographer's friend ^^. Well-designed, all metal, aperture ring, great optical quality...can't say that's compact (except the 90mm) or light (all metal!), but it's not the purpose.

The Sigma 45mm is my little lens for on the go. It is well built and I am always surprised even though it is only a kit lens

This video is a shining example of how to say things are bad without actually saying it (in case companies don't send you free products any more)
