In this talk I want to do two things in an attempt facilitate understanding of what different disciplines are trying to do. First, to argue that what actually demarcates the natural sciences from the human sciences (and, indeed, every discipline from each other) has not so much to do with methodology or ways of thinking, but with differences in what we can at present assume about the nature of the phenomena that each discipline studies. It is first and foremost a question of ontology; the differences in methodology and ways of thinking (if any) are a consequence of a difference in ontology.
