I love vauxhalls, especially the cavalier models. Beautiful cars remind me of my childhood along with the mk3 supra with the 7mgte engine and ford sierras xr4i 4x4 my favourite cosworth is the sapphire rwd and 4x4 beautiful they don't make cars like they used to most cars these day's look boring and lack character etc

The rounded rear wheel arches where only used on the Lotus Carlton or Omega and Opel Omega EVO 500 DTM race car and homologation street cars.
The GSI 3000 had straight rear wheel arches.
All very cool cars though 👍🏻

I used to own a Carlton GSi 3000 24v in Anthracite Black from 1999 to 2006. Was a beast of a car and always attracted a comment or two at traffic lights. Super smooth straight 6 which went on forever. Apparently the Lotus Carlton had just as much torque on tick over than the 3000 GSi had at 7000rpm. I had mine do 150mph (clock) with three mates on board...private road of course ;) By far the best car I'll ever have owned and dearly missed.

Worth that money all day long and as long as it's maintained it will just slowly keep rising in value.

There was a lad collecting these down by the Railway in Birtley on the old industrial estate.

The Lotus Carlton had the engine enlarged to 3.6 and then a twin turbo added.

I'd definitely lose the 'aero' additions and repaint it, but it's a cool thing.

Hello mate, good to see you on form.
I had a Carlton back in the day, only a 2 litre but I had it years and learnt quite a lot about all Carltons. The battery on all of them lived under the bonnet, I can't speak for the lotus, but all the standard GSIs 12 and 24v had the battery under the bonnet. The dash is an interesting one, a lot of the GSIs and almost all the 24v senators had the digital dash, but not all. Being an earlier 12v GSI, that analogue clock 160mph dash could be original. The engine has obviously had a lot more surgery than it says in the description, a rebore at least. From memory, the standard 3 litre 12v was around 168 bhp, I don't know what it will be with the turbo conversion, depends on the mapping and boost pressure. I would be nervous about rot under all that body kit as well! 10 grand for a very niche track car for someone reliving the thunder saloon days? Yeah, I agree mate, bit strong.

Nova gsi are going for about 20k which is probably equivalent to an xr2i which are roughly the same price
