Paul is absolutely one of my top 3 guitar guys. He was playing racer X in his teens und even then was an absolute monster player.

Paul Gilbert is definitely a legend in the guitar community. Paul has an incredible talent to blend classical and blues styles into his rock and metal music. Nowadays, he plays more blues than shred. But, if you look up his videos of him in the 80s, he was insanely fast. There are not many shredders as fast as him or as clean as him. He taught a lot of students, but his most notable student is probably Buckethead. He also taught newer generations like Li-Sa-X and gave lessons to other famous guitarists like Josh Rand from Stone Sour. His signature guitar model which you see in the video is called a "Fireman". It is a flipped Ibanez "Iceman" with his own specs. A fan suggested he called it a "Fireman" and so he decided to go with it.

I'm always excited to see people discover paul's playing. He's definitely in my top 3 favorite guitarists. Absolute monster and total nice guy.

Fun fact for Paul Gilbert. He would have got the Ozzie gig but he was too young so Ozzy went with Randy rhoads. The record company put together 3 other musicians that were capable of playing at Paul's level when he was a young teenager and soon as he was of age they brought him out to California and that's when we heard the band Mr. Big for the 1st time. The record company actually put that band together so that they could get him recording professionally

Paul is one of the best players I’ve ever seen. It’s funny you mentioned Eddie Van Halen, cause Paul was a huge fan of Eddie.

Overall, this is elementary for Paul Gilbert. I took a master class and played with him. I am a step above most guitarists, but humbled by this true master. He was Buckethead's teacher, by the way. Paul bowed to only Shawn Lane, who he seen as an anomaly.
