I wanted to transform our painted bathroom vanity into wood but I wasn’t sure if the wood was quality. So instead of stripping off layers of paint, I tested out this product called Retique It and I am mind-blown! I was so skeptical but wow I love how our vanity turned out!

Hi MaCenna! The vanity turned out amazing! Can't wait to see the full bathroom makeover! I totally geeked out over your hardware selection! I work as a designer that focuses strictly on older homes (circa 1890s - 1940s) and those appear to be from the Arts & Crafts era (best guess would be early 1900s to mid-1910s). Very reminiscent of what you would have seen in manor houses during that time frame.

This is actually a really good idea for ppl who prefer wood furniture but don't want the hassle of having to strip every single cabinet before staining it esp if u don't know what kind of wood is underneath something. Thanks for sharing a great resource!

Crazy how well the retique it worked! It looks really good also on the beams! :) The hardware you found is really beautiful and suits the cabinet well, but the backplates are a little big for my taste. It works on the drawerfronts but it is wider than the trim on the doors which makes them look out of place - but as long as you're happy with how it looks, it's great :)
Can't wait to see the next and final episode! :)

I think the knobs would look better in the middle of the doors. I think the bases are too big, it hangs off a bit! But love this update, cant wait to see it finished.

I really like the updated cabinets with the Retique It. They look so good. You should get them to sponsor your next video.

I used retiqite about a year ago and was amazed. I used a chip brush and it created subtle wood grain, still love it!

I think this might be one of my most fav spaces you’ve worked on. It’s coming together amazingly!

If you hadn't said that you were doing a faux wood treatment on those cabinets, I would have sworn you had replaced them. That stain color does so much to warm the space, and paired with the brass hardware? Love! It's amazing how you can make just a few changes to a room and create a whole new vibe. Can't wait to see the new fixtures installed! ❤

I’m not sure you even need the back plates, they would look great without them. The finish on the cabinets looks fantastic, I can’t wait to see how the rest of the bathroom turns out. :) ❤

Antiquing kits from the late 60’s and early 70’s were very popular and much like Retique-it (though I can’t remember the smell). The kits from then came in both wood look and in colors with slightly different colored glazes as well. I did a bookcase and unfinished dresser to match a blonde dresser with a Formica top I couldn’t change when I was in 8th grade. I also did a 30’s style drop leaf table and chairs in a bright apple green with a bluish glaze for my first apartment in the mid 70’s.

I love how thorough you are MaCenna & how professional the final results always look on your projects.I’m a knitter & it really matters to me that the sweaters I knit for my granddaughter look professional. What I’ve learned from you is that for most jobs, it’s not that it takes hiring a professional for the job to end up with professional looking results, it does take attention to detail. It takes being willing to slow down & caulk, fill all the nail holes, sand, & wipe it all down 2-3 times before the painting can begin. It takes time to clean off ALL the old paint from the pulls & hinges before re-installing them, or to complete all the steps to prep the surface properly instead of just slapping down some peel & stick tile to cover up floor you don’t care for. 😉 At first I thought you weren’t going to paint the inside of those doors, 😳 but I know you better than that. The bathroom looks absolutely beautiful!

Rick's Hardware is a major staple for Hollywood art departments! They're vital in supplying us hardware for our sets, not to mention they're lovely people. Thank you for supporting them during the strikes, we've been worried about our vendors!

Your cabinet makeover and new to you hardware is so classic. Your bathroom will be so beautiful when you add all of your new brass fixtures.

I think you were supposed to use a brush with stain and go with grain but the way you did it worked wonderfully! I'm gonna order some retiqueit!
