Announcing the all-new RØDE Blimp

Now featuring the Rycote® Lyre suspension system, the RØDE Blimp provides the ultimate in microphone suspension and isolation. Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre provides superior acoustic suspension to traditional elastic solutions, and will never wear out, sag or snap.

The Blimp's handle has also been completely redesigned, reducing the product weight significantly, while increasing the ergonomics for handheld use. Housed inside the grip is a heavy-duty Mogami cable which splits via a junction box to a highly-flexible thin cable inside the Blimp, to minimise the transference of vibration to the microphone.

With the lightweight design of the handle and suspension system the new Blimp design is over 25% lighter (550gm without microphone or DeadWombat fitted).

Can't wait to get my hands on this thing, another amazing product from an amazing company. Keep up the great work!

I had to buy three of these before I got one that worked; the first one had a defective cable, the second one had mistapped threads on one of the rails, and the third one I stripped one of the threads in the sheap metal. I gave up returning them so just figured out a way to re-engineer it myself. I should have just bought the Sennheiser or Rycote straight off, but after a few months of messing with these, I now have one working.

Oh RODE. I'm at a lose for words. I've never wanted a new toy more in my entire life.

I absolutely love the blimp and its improvements, but i much better prefer the round aluminum supports. One reason being is that i can use different size microphones, for example the NT4. The NT4 is a heavy mic and the kit that came with the old blimp had supports that fit the NT4 perfectly, as well as other mic sizes.

I use the MkI blimp for the nt4, looking at the mkII for my shotgun mics, ntg2 n 3.

whats the rumble like from general mic movement? and not handling movement.
(the old blimp caused definite thump noises when the mic moved inside the mounts)

I believe these lyres are meant for the range of thinner mics from Rode. Can I change the lyres for a fatter mic like NT4 with the appropriate replacement lyres from Rycote? By appropriate I mean the circumference size that can take the fatter mics. Also, can the 3-pin XLR be changed to accommodate a 5-pin XLR easily? In short, can I easily modify this blimp to take my NT4 once in a while?

Great updates, any way or plans to upgrade the original Blimp with the new parts?

Will this work with my existing NTG8 extension piece?  Also, will you offer a retrofit kit for the Lyre/handle/rail/cable (i.e., everything but the blimp and fur)?

Great product but as to your 'be in stores near you soon' remark...I wish you'd kick Soundhouse (Narita Japan) up the butt as they are too slow to respond and it is taking 2 weeks to get them to reply fully to a simple price enquiry on YOUR products. As for your other Japan distributors, they seem to be distributors in name only and almost never have your products listed on their homepage. I strongly urge you to start distributing through the mainstream electronics shops like Yodobashi etc. or better still, sell your products direct and internationally at that.
