I’m sorry people are complaining about your accents. You’re obviously bilingual and are doing a great job with English, one of the very hardest languages to learn. Your accents are minimal. Please don’t be hurt by those who are so unkind.

I appreciate the fact that you emphasize that people struggling with clutter are not "lazy". Clutter is a reaction to trauma and needs professional and compassionate people like you to deal with it, not "well meaning" but judgmental outsiders.

Omg. The itty bitty shity committee is genius. I think it should be a catch phrase.
Those with ptsd definitely live with the ibsc.

Having less stuff is definitely very freeing and makes the environment a very peaceful place to be in. But I’ve found that the person who hoards also needs to change their mind about stuff, develop a different mindset about stuff, and especially develop every day processes to keep their stuff organized on a daily basis in order to prevent their space from falling back into chaos and to stop the accumulation of more stuff.
I challenged one person to only buy necessities, like food and toilet paper, for one month. I set a time limit on it so she could see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think it helped a bit. She saved money by not compulsively shopping and started using the stuff she already had. With that success under her belt, she felt motivated to do it for longer. She did have relapses after that, but she has not gone to counseling yet to deal with the trauma she experienced as a child.
Hang in there everyone who suffers from this. You can overcome this. Awareness and a desire to be healed and change your behaviors are the first steps to actualizing them. Be gentle with yourself. It’s okay to take baby steps. Take care of yourself. Get some sunshine, smile, listen to music you love, move your body, eat real food, get some sleep, watch comedy, think positive, minimize stress, and believe in yourself, and your brain shall heal. The neurons that fire together wire together. Be persistent and never give up. ♥️

I’m really struggling with depression and anxiety currently and my house is crammed packed with stuff and it’s all unorganized. I’ve dealt with trauma most of my life or I guess I haven’t actually dealt with anything. I seriously need help, but I can’t afford it! I have those demeaning voices in my head all the time. Thank you for your video. I like your accents!💜

Thank you both for this information 🎉. This is a journey. I am only visiting for 2 weeks. My aunt is a hoarder, with ptsd..(2 major car accidents) Since her parents recent deaths she now has time for herself. Unfortunately she keeps shopping more intensively than cleaning the house. I started feeling traumatized by having to live in her environment. I want to help her but she says everything is fine. She says I'm stressing her. I love her but the next time I'll go to a hotel so I have options, for my peace of mind.

A few people I know who suffer from excessive clutter and minimal organization behaviors tell me they save things/hoard because they have experienced poverty at some point in their lives (or are still in poverty) and don’t know if they’ll ever be able to replace items if they get rid of them and they can use them. One of the people also has severe disabilities which limit her ability to even go to the grocery store. So since living in poverty can be stressful, I guess that also affects the brain connections and it also provides a “logical” excuse for saving lots of stuff (lack of money or fear of lack of money). That could also be why it’s so stressful to declutter, especially if it’s a sentimental item. In those cases, the object is associated with a person so getting rid of the object feels like you don’t care about the person or you’ll somehow lose the connection to that person or the memory it generates. One useful suggestion I read was to take a picture of the object to help that person retain the memory but let go if the item.

I've moved so many times, I kept taking boxes I've never gone through just to avoid losing things. But it just made everything worse, now idk what to do with the stuff I've accumulated. I'm going through it and it's hard to let go.
I'm going to donate some things today. Bye bye stress.
