Close range combat? It's 2023, not the F4 vs Mig's during Nam. Everything is accomplished before within visual range. Add to that - the F35 is a part of a powerful real time data mesh involving air, sea and land based assets. It's a system - not an airplane.

Why would there be "Close range" combat. The fight will be over 100km away.

The F35 can engage a SU35 from well beyond the SU35's radar capability and destroy surface to air systems without detection.

A F35 is not a dogfighter, a F35 will probably have prox support by F16's or F18's which are apt in handling the SUs and migs

The F-35 isnt built for Air Superiority, the F-22 is, so why is the Su-35 being compared to a multi-role? Even if you go the route of arguing that the F-22 "isn't going to be around much longer", you still have to content with F-18's and F-15's which are platforms with air superiority variants.

Most probably the SU-35 would be shot down with BVR missiles not even knowing that there is an F-35 is in the air.
However it can detect the missiles and the question is how well can the pilot defend.

Well considering the F-35 has Missiles that can hit planes from miles away, most likely the SU-35 will be shot down before it’s able to close the gap or at least retaliate back.

Not wanting to sound biased, but the F-35 will see the SU-35 from more than 80 miles away and take it out with AIM-120D.
