I Asked ChatGPT to Recommend 5 Dividend Stocks from the ASX200

Is ChatGPT any good at picking dividend stocks? I asked it and here’s what it said.

I wanted to know which companies listed in the ASX200 were good dividend companies. They needed to have consistent dividends and a good yield.

That’s usually the basis of my own research criteria.

And ChatGPT came back with five different companies.

BHP Group (BHP)
Fortescue Metals (FMG)
Telstra Corporation (TLS)
Transurban Group (TCL)
AGL Energy (AGL)

I find the stock screeners are the best for weeding out what you do and don't want. just fine tune the screener and save it. I set Westpac's one for a minimum yield of 2.8% a minimum per annum dividend growth rate of 4% over 10 years, large and medium market cap stocks, payout ratios are also displayed, I think the list displays 55 stocks.

I use it for programming code for basic syntax I keep forgetting. It's useful but inaccurate a lot of the time and sometimes you have to ask it a dozen times before you get close to what you want. Might give you a "starter for 10" for stock picking, but that's about it.

Those 5 are totally obvious and sound quite sensible but do not reflect the personal input you are making in your comments. TCL and AGL maybe poised for improved growth.

I probably wouldnt reccomend choosing a therapist that cant discern between "picket" and "pick it" tho, no harm in letting it punt stocks, try horses and greyhounds too 😂
