His instructions weren't working for me at all until I plugged it into my laptop, then it worked! Before, it was only powering on and off, then after reading everyone's comments I plugged my tablet into my computer with its usb charging cable. I let it install the drivers and do it's thing for a couple of minutes, THEN I followed his instructions and it worked like a charm -- reset as if right out of the box. Thanks to everyone for those helpful comments and the WorldofTech dude! PLUG IT IN :)

I did the same steps without any luck, you have to plug it in your computers usb port and do the same power/vol up and it will go into recovery mode..

took us 1 time to do it along with you! thank you so much! I forgot my pattern sign in and I reset and was able to sign in via google! we were stuck in a loop of 24 hour lock out. thank you for your post

Mine did not reset as well. Samsung must have changed the process.

However I was able to do it this way (you need to be able to login though):

- Go to Settings (that gear icon at the top right corner)
- General Management
- Reset
- Factory data reset
- Click on the "Reset" button at the bottom and follow the remaining prompts.

I found out how to precisely do this without knowing a password. While device is on, hold power + volume down for 5 brisk counting seconds, screen should go black, then immediately switch finger on volume down to volume up for another brisk 5 second count, then release power button when you see Samsung logo begin to change the word on screen to just Samsung and a small boxy Android logo briefly in middle of the screen which leads to system menu. Timing is everything. Hold the power button too long, and the device resets to turn on normally again.

another trick if you've only possibly got a corporate laptop not wanting to interfere, or no laptop at all... only prep kit you need is a usb-c to usb-c cable to plug it into the tablet and the other end into another phone; i've tested a Samsung and Nokia phone, both worked - just not with an open circuit without the device on the other end of the cable. doesn't work if it's just on charge either. and relax 2-3 ;-)

Hello! I did just what you said many times but mine does not come up with recovery screen. Are there any other way to reseet?

Using this method will work just plug it into power or computer via USB and it will work without needing to power down

AFter I hold down the power & volume up key, I do NOT get the same menu that you show here. The thing just seems to boot normally and I see my usual home screen.

Thank you, I performed the instructions, I was able to perform the Wipe Data/factory reset, but I am still locked out because it booted to a Welcome, Let's Get Started Screen, I press next then I am prompted to join a wireless network; I enter our home WiFi and hit [Next] that another screen pops up to verify with either entering another Pin# or syncing with Gmail - I do not have the PIN/Gmail account that was synced with this (phone?): this is a A7 Galaxy Tablet, so I am assuming that someone synchronized a smartphone and google email with this tablet. How can I get passed this step?
