“This video has been buried away for 6 years and I can’t think of a better time than now to share it with the world and add a tiny touch of beauty to what is already lost. In Feb. of 2014 we were half-way through the ‘Trouble Will Find Me’ touring cycle. After finishing a run of great shows in Australia, we had one day-off before the last show on the run, a west coast performance in Perth. We all decided as one big touring-family that we wanted to rent a boat and make a journey to see a series of islands off the coast that are protected nature reserves. As we anchored in one of the bays, we all noticed there was a fearless group of seals swimming around the boat. Brandon and Matt decided to jump in first and to the surprise of us all, the seals started swimming alongside them and playing with us. At the time I always kept a camera with me to add video content to our show if a good opportunity arose. So I jumped in after them and caught this beautifully humanizing moment of Matt swimming with the seals. A memory that reminds me just how lucky we are to be able to share things like this with one another.” - Michael Brown

I am mind blown there's a video for this after 7 years. This is my favourite song from my favourite band. This song touches me on a spiritual level. Not only does it perfectly embody a deeply ethereal sense of longing, but I would listen to it every evening right after TWFM came out in a special place. I was staying on Ometepe volcano island in Nicaragua, working at a farm co-op, and I would have to return from the cafe down the road before dark fell and I couldn't find my way safely back (there were no street lights). So every night I would play this song, walk back along the dirt road as the sun set over the volcano, the Nicaraguan schoolchildren would run past in their uniforms, and stray pigs and donkeys would amble casually beside me. It was, and is, the perfect song.

This beautiful song, and album, always remind me of a particularly tough time in my life. I'd finished school and all my friends had gone to University, however I wasn't sure what to do so remained behind and took a job I came to hate. All my friends were away taking their first steps into adulthood and it was just me, alone in my experience, with nobody to talk to and slipping miserably into depression. I stopped taking care of myself, developed an eating disorder and was afraid to be seen by anyone. The only thing I had was music, and live music. I would go to dozens and dozens of concerts, always by myself. But when I was there I never felt alone. When the music started, everyone in that room was one. Afterwards, a lot of the time I'd find myself getting a long night train home, and then walking from the station after midnight. A lot of the time I'd find myself listening to Trouble Will Find Me, and when I'd be walking through the silent streets after midnight, looking at the stars and this song would come on, I'd be completely overwhelmed by it. It devastates me, but also gave me a real sense of calm. A sense of peace. That things might be OK. It'd bring a tear to my eye but I would feel that tranquillity too. And that was all I needed at that time. I'll always remember this album and song so fondly because of this time and be so, so thankful I live in the world at the same time The National exist. ❤️

I don’t think I’ve ever genuinely loved a band as much as The National. Every single song is absolutely sublime, but there’s a few that touch my soul. This song is one of them. Every time I listen to it I want to just burst into tears. I love it so much it hurts.

The National has been my steady favorite band since Trouble will find me, the album got me through drug addiction, divorces and my brothers death...he passed in March 2013, unfortunately he swallowed the cap but all their albums helped me to come back and gave me the strength to carry on... Luv The National pure inspiration...
