Hey Folks
I am seeing some feedback about the vibe of this video.
Some of you think I am coming off as negative and complaining.
I think much of the nuance of the message I was trying to communicate in this video was lost and I did a poor job of communicating with this one. I’m sorry about that. I’m hearing your feedback. I’ll take it to heart and do better in the future.
I’m looking at the criticisms to see what lessons can be learned from this experience.

After all I spent almost 3 weeks working on this video and it didn’t occur to me that it would be perceived as negative until after it was released and I got to check out some of the comments left on the video. I think part of the reason I was oblivious to how I could be seen by some is that I didn’t have negative feelings about this in my heart, so I was surprised to see it be perceived that way by some.

Some moments in this video, such as when I went to 4 thrift shops in a row looking for a specific style box to paint & couldn’t find one, so I was annoyed at having to find the box, could be interpreted as me being annoyed with making the paintings all together
I wasn’t annoyed or frustrated with making the paintings.
I am enjoying making the paintings.
I love painting.
Doing 3 at once was probably an unwise decision (lol) but I am enjoying the process.
What I attempted to communicate with this video is why I am no longer doing personal commissions and some of the pros and cons of doing commissions. This also isn’t a new development. I haven’t taken any personal commissions for 3 years now. But for some of you, it was viewed as me being annoyed and frustrated with these 3 specific commissions.

Some of you have expressed that if you were the one commissioning these pieces you would feel bad about some of the sentiments I expressed in this video.
I’ve talked to memory box guy and the Pokemon painting lady and they enjoyed the video and didn’t see it as me being frustrated with those pieces. One said "I really did not take anything personal or felt attacked by it. Quite the opposite and if anything, it felt both genuine and very special to be among those last lucky few.” On several occasions I have offered everyone on my commission list a refund of their deposit. When they joined the wait list they were told it could be quite some time before they got the art. Many folks took the refund when I offered it and my list used to be longer. The clients who requested the art in this video are excited for their art and have expressed nothing but enjoyment of this video.

I try to share much of my triumphs and struggles in my videos. I think it’s important to show all that, not only to art fans who can appreciate the full process of what goes into these artworks, but also to other artists who may experience similar things and don’t have to feel alone in some of their struggles and adversities.

Ultimately, I want as many people as possible to enjoy my videos and I obviously had a miss-step in that mission with this video. It’s an important lesson to learn and I will try to find a better balance between sharing my struggles and frustrations without coming off as completely negative.

Thanks for the important feedback.
Always striving to do better.
-Peter

As an artist I totally related to you when you mentioned how the commissions looming over you. It's hard creating something when your heart isn't in it

FINALLY!! An artist saying it like it is. Commissions are NOT fun. Every time I take on a commission I end up regretting it. I always thought it was crazy how much youtubers seemed to enjoy working on commissions. Thank you for saying it like it is.

I'd take this vibe any day compared to delusional art content. There's a real struggle out there for artist. Commissions are not rainbows and butterflies, any artist who tell you otherwise are lying to themselves and fooling around. And I think that it's a good opportunity especially for bigger artist like Ten Hun to express something that many of the artist feel but can't be heard. I don't consider this negative at all, it's a real feeling coming from real human.

That memory box got me choked up a bit, fellow dad here with a daughter around the age of yours, your work is everything a parent would hope to receive to give their child, I myself as an artist would be honored to give something of that quality to my daughter. Thank you for sharing, wholesome x1000

commisions are VERY stressfull as an artist because your FORCING yourself to be creative and as we've all learned from burnout its not easy to always PERFORM your creativity when you don't feel it. Kudos to making it tho, I'm still trying to finish one and its so stressful T.T

I think the fact that you are at a point in your career that you no longer need nor want to do commissions but still put in such incredible effort and produce results that are above and beyond says volumes about you as an artist. Can't wait to see the finished pieces!

I personally love making commissions for people, using their ideas, views and my creativity to create something unique and different. Basically the art piece contains two peoples energy. Yes sometimes the art requests can be "difficult" because art is not a print shop, but its all depends on artists mood, vibe, energy. But ones you figure out and get out of the difficult part, its an amazing feeling. I always enjoyed every art work i have created for someone, especially if someone have died and couldn't be part of some event or maybe beloved pet died, but with magic of art it can create those memories or new memories that never happened, and beloved pet doesnt have to be something that will be later forgotten about . Thats just my view of all this as an artist.

We received our vivid kingdoms cards just before Christmas. They are an incredible piece of artwork and worth every second of the wait. You were open and honest 100% along the way and we didn’t mind waiting because your artwork is totally worth the wait. Also that is the nature of ordering anything off of Kickstarter. It seems like this is the year of knocking things off your plate and I am excited for you that so many projects are coming to an end, The last super was epic, vivid kingdoms was epic, and these commissions were epic! We are just excited to see where you go next and as these other projects come to an end will happy to see you find some balance again!

I liked that you showed real struggles of being an artist and one that’s evolving so fast as you! I feel this type of stress when working on one painting that is just for my pure enjoyment haha. You produce great content and I liked the realness of it all! Still just as inspiring as your other content.

The entirety of this video contains the reasons why so many of us want Ten Hundred originals! I understand why commissions are a bummer; I've been there myself. I know you'll come up with a brilliant idea to give those of us chomping at the bit a way to get a Ten Hun original! Keep reaching for the stars, Peter; you're already on the moon, and the galaxy is yours for the taking!

We've been watching Ten Hun for years... feels lately like there's a shift in the overall positivity to things. I hope things are ok and the negativity disappears and the joy of the craft comes back again.

Being a tattoo artist, i can feel you about not wanting to do commissions because it can become tricky really quickly, but when you're style become the main focus that’s when the fun begin ✨

I totally feel what you're saying about looking for more time. But, its a good problem to have. Right now, I have nothing on the books for the rest of this month and all of next. Zero work, no commissions, and nothing slated to start until March at the earliest. And I'd gladly trade last month, searching for more time and working with hi profile clients over this time at any time. I know its tough but always remember the flip side when you had all the time in the world and no one was interested. Its not a great place to be. Keep up the amazing work!

I totally understand what TenHun feels. I'm an artist myself, and started saying no to portrait commissions even if I'm not well-known. Most of the time, clients want the portrait to be as accurate as possible, and it keeps me pressured (not in a good way). So this time, I'm focusing on the style of art I'm having fun with, it makes the art journey more worth it.

The Inability to make it simple is what makes every piece of your art a piece of your heart. 🙂
