The tragedy is that there are obviously two kinds of people who deal with the horrors of history in very different ways.
Avraham Burg, who was Speaker of the Knesset in more civilized times, put it this way:
"There are two kinds of people coming out of Auschwitz. Those who said never again for the Jews and those like me who say never again for any human beings."
I fear that the first group has asserted itself in a completely insane way in Israel and in Western politics in general, especially in Germany: Even though it is obvious to all other people that the state of Israel is now committing even the most horrific crimes, these people are incapable of admitting it and acting accordingly. It would mean cognitive dissonance.
The obvious genocide is happening before our eyes. The people who were murdered back then are dead. No one can help them anymore.
But the people who will be murdered tomorrow and the day after tomorrow by the fascists of our time - they could be saved ...
