Believe it or not, but France is the nation which conducted most of airborne operations: from Indochina to the Algeria and Suez Crises, paratroopers were an essential part of French Cold War tactics, and and their use was well mastered. In May 1978, the city of Kolwezi and its inhabitants, including many Europeans, were taken hostage by FLNC forces. A coalition composed of French, Belgian and Zairian forces was quickly formed to reconquer the city. Belgian forces being disorganized to the point of being delayed, the French 2ème Régiment Étranger de Parachutistes (2nd foreign paratrooper regiment) led the initial airborne assault on the morning of May 18th, closely followed by the 311th Zairian Paratrooper Battalion. Belgian elements finally arrived during the afternoon. Within two days, the entire city was under Coalition control, and 2,800 Europeans were secured and evacuated on 21 May. French and Belgian units were relieved by an Inter-African Force led by 1,500 soldiers from Morocco, Senegal, Togo, and Gabon. The operation was a complete success with "few" losses for the coalition and was a prime example of the efficiency and effectiveness of light infantry when used with the element of surprise and with good intelligence and logistics.

Ce film rend ainsi un bref hommage à ceux tombés . . . Ne les oublions pas !
Ensuite, comme ttes guerres ! Inutiles et pertes de personnes que l 0n aime ! Faute irréversible et 0n ne peut faire revivre ceux tombés ! Que ns ne puissions pas éliminer ceux qui crée cela ! Là est une grande lacune . . . . ! Triste - Dramatique - Epouvantable !

Un beau film a voir, c'était plus difficile dans la réalité même si l'op a été tres bien menée, merci aux différents regiments qui y ont participés, le 2ème REP, bien sur mais aussi le 13ème RDP, puis ceux intervenus ensuite

En PMP en juin 79, à Borgo, les instructeurs du 2e REP étaient à Kolwezi, parler avec eux de l'opération bonite nous a confortés dans notre décision, six mois plus tard des éléments du 9e RCP étaient sélectionnés pour le film
