Highlights from a panel of experts discussing the benefits and inherent challenges of the bipartisan Nuclear Energy Leadership Act (NELA), a comprehensive blueprint for the U.S. to once again lead the world in next-generation nuclear power.

NELA addresses the lack of aggressive yet achievable milestones for U.S.-led advanced reactor technologies and of an overall long-term strategy for the direction of U.S. nuclear science and engineering research and development.

The briefing featured discussion on how the bill addresses national security challenges faced by burgeoning advanced nuclear efforts in China and Russia, as well as specific “moonshot” and other goals to create necessary testing infrastructure and ensuring a domestic supply of fuel needed for most advanced reactors.
