RIVER MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES - AQA GCSE 9-1 Geography 2020

In this video I am going to investigate the various different hard and soft river management strategies that can be employed to reduce the risk of flooding.

When evaluating all these different strategies you need to consider the cost versus the benefits. Are the costs really worth it for the end results or benefits.

Hard engineering sees the construction of artificial structures to try to reduce the risk of flooding.

- Dams & Resevoirs
- Channel Straightening
- Embankments
- Flood Relief Channel

Soft engineering involves adapting the river environment and using less invasive techniques when trying to protect against future flooding.

- Flood Plain Zoning

- Warning Systems

- Planting more Trees

- Restoring the River Environments

Very clear message and information given in this video… nicely articulate how rivers and structures work… one thing bothers me the use of words… particularly opening statements… I believe that Flood cannot be prevented… strucures reduce the risk of flooding
