I had SUCH a great time at a book signing last week and I'm excited to get to share the experience with you! It's been a long while since I've been to a signing and I was thrilled to get to meet Christina Lauren, the writing duo behind a lot of my favorite romcoms. They have a new book out, "Something Wilder," and just happened to be in town for part of their book tour.
If you've never been to a book signing before, I highly recommend you find one local to you and make plans to go! They're inspirational for aspiring authors and it's encouraging to be in a crowd of people who love the same thing you do. I'm sharing what you need to know when going to a book signing so that you're prepared!
Have you gone to book signings before? If so, what author(s) have you met? Are there any authors you'd *love* to meet? Did I miss anything in particular about book signings and what to know when attending? Let me know in the comments!

Yay! This inspired me to look up my local bookstore and I'm signed up to go to a book talk this Thursday by Nina LaCour and Casey McQuiston! 🤗

I've never been to a signing or really ever thought about going to one. Back in the DC area, just getting to one meant too much hassle (traffic, etc.), as you well know! But this "intro to book signings" episode was really great, Meredith. I learned a lot and enjoyed hearing about it all.

As someone with social anxiety I really appreciate this video and how you broke down how signings can typically go. I’ve been to signings before but this kind of video would’ve made it so much less anxiety inducing for me.

I never used to bother getting things signed because, personally, I don't care about autographs. But, when I made author friends I started going to their book launches and doing the supportive things, which led to doing the same at events for not-friend authors. I'll line up to get a debut author's autograph and take a minute to tell them something I like about their work. It's kinda cool getting to see what it means to them to have a stranger care about their book-baby, and getting to be that stranger.

I haven’t been to a signing, yet, but this sounds like so much fun! Thank you for all these awesome tips!

There was a great mystery bookshop in the Village/NYC (Partners & Crime) now closed, but very intimate and always hosted author talks & signings, but the authors almost always had only just arrived in Manhattan and seemed very unenthusiastic about being there. At least there was plenty of wine to perk things up. Amy Sedaris did a great job at her signing at the B&N at Union Square a few years back. Got the audience involved and was really entertaining. Unfortunately, my local Jersey City bookshop moved away but I don't think they had many authors stopping by anyway. Dream signing events: Agatha Christie, Shirley Jackson, Dorothy B. Hughes, Nancy Mitford, Evelyn Waugh, Hemingway and/or Flannery O'Connor.... If only!

Thanks for this! Lot’s of great information 🙂. I’ve never been to a signing, but when my 1st book came out I did a few signings. As a self-published author (completely unknown) it was such a nice feeling that people actually came up to the table and asked about the book. They didn’t always buy it, but boy their interest boosted my confidence! Us selfies don’t get the ‘book tours’. 😂 So if you want to do signings you have to ‘pull up your britches’ and talk to the bookstores yourself. Most are pretty nice, and love helping out an author.

I just did a big book haul and I was already starting to think about how I really wanted to start finding some indie book stores in my area and this is just inspiring me even more! It would be so cool to follow a few bookstores and see when they have book signings! I have never actually gone to one before!

I've been to a few. One was Sherrilynn Kenyon a million years ago. At the time I was in to urban fantasy romance. Her book signing was held in Pheonix Az at a Barnes and Noble. I drive 3 hours there, the signing didn't start at 7 I think and it didn't end until way after midnight. The manager was nice enough for those who were at the end of the list ro let use stay after hours to get our books signed. Another book signing I went to New Orleans.

Done signings as an author and went to a few as a teen, but I forget who! I do love signings tho, they're so much fun!

One of the sad things about living in New Zealand is the limited opportunities for this, and I live in a town where nothing much happens other than local authors lol JEALOUS
