Voters in the former Soviet republic of Moldova are heading to the polls - amid allegations of Russian meddling. Moldova's relations with Moscow are a major issue in Sunday's presidential run-off. The incumbent, pro-European president Maia Sandu has distanced the country from Russia during its invasion of Ukraine. She's up against the country's former prosecutor-general, Alexandr Stoianoglo, who's promising closer economic ties with Russia. Moscow denies accusations made by the EU and others that it is trying to undermine the election.

every country that stayed close to russia after the soviet collapse are the poorest countries in the region, the ones that joined the EU are far better off, compare life in Poland, Lithuania, Finland and the other baltic states to life in Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus seems like a pretty clear choice....

Putin came and voted in Georgia, Moldova and today in usa? What sort of ancient technology is Putin using to cast these votes?

Russia always tries to have his controlled countries back . EU don't push the countries to be part of Europe, Hungary us a good example of this, if Hungary wants, it can leave EU but not, orban critizes but he doesn't leave it.

Reunification with Romania (without Transnistria) is the only solution for the Republic of Moldova.

Blame Russia on everything is not a good strategy.

Doesn't really matter what they choose. The EU will resume cooperation with Russia sooner than Moldova will be the EU member. Moldova can always change mind and join BRICS. There is very little benefits for Moldovans from the EU. Majority of them have already Romanian passports. They work and live in the EU. They can actually see that magic of the EU has gone down to the drain long time ago. Best for Moldova is to stay neutral and open for all. Current president is just US-EU puppet harming country and citizens. China wanted to invest hugely in Moldova. Sandu scrapped over 20 projects. Don't forget she is linked to World Bank and she met Klaus Schwab in 2022. Western puppet nothing else.

One thing I don't get about the narrative regarding the East European space between Western Europe and Russia. All those countries are constantly talked about like their only choice is vassality to the West or to Russia. Those nations can never be for themselves. Their leaders can never be Pro-Slovak, Pro-Hungarian, Pro-Moldovan. It is rather insulting to all those nations in my view.

It was not election but selection by EU. She won through EU manipulating of votes. Alexandr Stoianoglo her rival had 51% of votes but moldavon labours votes residing in EU countries changed the balance.

It's so ridiculous. Is it in the German world, anything should always be divided into two? Why are Moldovans should be either European or Russian? Shouldn’t Moldova come first for Moldovans?

Thankfully, Moldova does not have foreign garrisons like Germany, Moldovans have room to think independently.

Moldova citizens like other eastern country will always be treated as the 2nd or 3rd class citizen in the EU block.
