Planning Cycle is not easy to understand. But this video will help you to make sense of it and unpack the key steps in planning. EYLF and Victorian EYLDF are fantastic support for any beginning educators, as they have all the language you can use and apply to your written observations, analysis and planning.

WHO AM I? 😊
My name is Kate and I am very passionate about learning, especially in the Early Years from 0-8.

I have a background in Early Childhood (Bachelor's and Master of Education), VET and Tertiary education (both face to face classroom teaching and online learning). I have worked in the early childhood profession for over 13 years in various positions: as a nanny, playgroup coordinator, storyteller at the local library, eventually completed Certificate 3, Bachelor and Masters of Early Childhood Education, Graduate Certificate of research.

With time and gained experience, I enjoyed more leadership like roles, such as an educational leader, trainer/ assessor, eLearning Advisor and unit coordinator. Every year I enjoy working as a relief ECT in different preschools and long daycare centres to keep current.
I love playing piano and ukulele; singing with children and pre-service teachers; write poetry and silly songs. I am also a book nerd and read everything related to early childhood education and care.

STORYKATE channel is all about early childhood education and care. As an early childhood teacher and teacher's educator, I love to share my passion for early learning through stories; puppet shows, action songs, circle games, children's songs, and thoughts about helping young children to learn. With a strong focus on storytelling, teaching with puppets, music and play, I will demonstrate the ways to create an engaging program for children, with a particular emphasis on circle time (group time, meeting time or yarning circle). I am committed to supporting the community for early childhood pre-service educators (Certificate 3 in ECEC, diploma in ECEC and a Bachelor of ECEC and working professionals. I vision STORYKATE as a space to share ideas, examples of good practice; reflections and fun!

Hi Kate,
I'm currently working through some of your videos on the channel to gain some insight into programming. I have just recently come back to the child care industry after a 22 year break where I was burned out due to toxic environments in the workplace. Since then, there have been introductions to the EYLF of which I am working on truly understanding. I had my staff appraisal last week and the bosses (owners of the company I work for) basically told me "they like me" and that I am now possibly being earmarked to take the place of a staff member who has tendered her resignation. Last time I spent just as many hours off the floor in my own time planning and programming as I was on the floor and this time I just really cannot do that (I have my own family etc). With a child led program, can you plan day by day - meaning you have a group of children with whom you have implemented activities and to expand and extend their learning you can lead off from that day's program, the following week on that day of the week? I'm just trying to look at ways to really minimise the time spent doing the actual programming. If this is a strategy, I would rather do it this way than having to do it for a whole weekend once a fortnight.
