WHY pilots SHOULDN'T wear a BEARD??? #shorts

Did you know that many airlines require their pilots to be beardless?
The primary reason, therefore, is safety. In case of a rapid depressurization, pilots have to put on the quick donning mask. The seal between the mask and the pilot's face could be compromised if he wore a beard. Air could seep out between the beard and the mask!
I hope you enjoyed this video and learned a little aviation fact for today! More to come tomorrow!
Wishing you all the best!
Joe

This was one of the reasons you can't have a beard in the military, because they thought it would mess up your gas mask seal. It's been debunked though. Alot of times.

FAA says no. You can have a tight seal with 100% O2. Us pilots at Atlas and UPS have beards. Trimmed to 1/4 in.

The same reason that Hitler had his small mustache vs the earlier long one he had at the beginning of the war-prior to the use of gas warfare

Air canada did checks on this, there is no notable differance to the seal from the quick don o2 mask between a beard and clean shaved. Flying 16 years

I always wondered if Captain Joe and Mentour Pilot got on. Shots fired.

Wasn't this proven untrue many times? One of the reasons American army and air force want to be allowed to have a beard

Beside they look really handsome with clean shave face and all of them are former military so they used it
Great people hard working, skilled and well educated.
Respect and all blessings to our airlines pilots.

I'd have thought the oxygen flow to be positive- higher (even slightly) than ambient, making the seal far less important.

Do a short on the mask! The way it tightens up around the head is piquing my curiosity!

Our airline just went to beard approval.

Or I'll sign for a 14 days on - 14 days off shift job, so when I'm off I'll let the beard grow to be cut just the day before work. yeah, yeah, I'll go for it

In most applications I know of, a good seal around the mask is primarily required to prevent noxious gasses from seeping in, rather than allowing a bit of the good stuff from seeping out.
The straps need to be quite tight to overcome pressure differentials at altitude though, in the case of cabin depressurization.

I love how that mask hugs your face when you squeeze the red tabs 😎
