Agios Dimitrios | Mystras

Agios Dimitrios, usually referred to as the Mitropoli (an orthodox cathedral) was the first church to be built inside the castle, shortly after it was handed over to the Byzantines. Its first shape was a three-aisled basilica; in the 15th century, however, the Mystras-exclusive style of across-shaped church topped with five domes was swiftly adopted as the most prestigious option, and the Mitropoli was modified to resemble the Afentiko and the Pantanassa.
