Man, this has got to be flat out the most heartbreaking ending I have ever experienced in a video game. One of the last things Ryuji ever said to Erika was that he hates her and that everything bad in his life is because she was born. She agrees, and then she just DIES. And to make it even more tragic for her, it turns out everybody's lives are better now in the new timeline because they don't have to take care of her... It's depressing man.

In a way, I realize that this is also the Digimon franchise saying farewell and thank you to Wada Kouji, the Immortal Butterfly 🦋 may he rest in peace

Keisuke's tear rolling down his cheek when he entered the "VIP" room...

Keisuke and Erika's relationship were built so beautifully, even that hug at the rooftop after fighting Kishibe... Of course he would drop a tear. Not only that, I noticed Keisuke is the only one that retains the memory of the game's events (alongside Takumi/Ami's group), and it was because Keisuke pulled himself to the digital tunnel that connects the two world. You know, that tunnel where you see all your Digimon. As the world's transformation were happening, Keisuke is in that tunnel, that's why his memories are intact.

I can appreciate it when a game can actually effect me emotionally. This ending did it. It's sad and this theme fits for a bittersweet mood. Erika is gone and forgotten by everyone but Keisuke, but it's also a new beginning for her. She can have adventures she never could have, but wanted to in her pre-biomerge state. The narrative tells us she will die if she came to the new world and so she chose to be the embodiment of the old world's memories. She isn't alone either, she has the rest of the team's partners with her and since Keisuke didn't forget I would like to think he is her connection from which she can visit the people she left behind when the digital world fully reconnects to the new world. We'll see Hudiemon again, after all digimon has always been about connections and she still has at least one.

Never thought a game would break me as bad as this, and it’s a Digimon game!! Of any character in this game that deserved a happy ending it was Erika :’(

Just finished Hacker's Memory... I can confirm this one is way depressing.
I feel sad and also happy. What is this feeling? This game just... That's why I love Digimon so much. It makes you feel different than any other things.

This ending is so depressing :'(
And it got even sadder for me the more I thought about it. Like, probably the most fucked up part is that Ryuji tells Erika in his demented state that everything in his life is her fault and she agrees, but then after the ending... Ryuji is living a happy life and both of his parents are alive in the new timeline, so idk, I find that really cruel :(

Remember when Mirei said “two wheels of fate turning in opposite direction”?

Also can I just say the foreshadowing in this game is insane: like with Erika’s avatar in ‘let’s chat’ (the chat room in the beginning) being a butterfly, I’m sure there is more but I can’t remember (*although I recently got the game * I did play the Cyber Sleuth story I just never bought hacker’s memory until I saw ps4 had a sale on it)

Cyber Sleuth's ending made me cry with bittersweet tears.

Hacker's Memory? Hacker's Memory *_DESTROYED_* me emotionally. As people have said, Keisuke and Erika's relationship was built up wonderfully. It's tragic that the last time Erika and Ryuji spoke to each other it was full of escalated hate and anger from Ryuji but I like to think by the end of the story, Erika knew that isn't how Ryuji felt after everything she experienced and learned about Digimon, how some can create bonds that go beyond friendship and how some can corrupt. As for Keisuke and whether he remembers or not...I choose to believe he did. I think that moment he reached out for Hudiemon was what let him remember since he was still in the dimensional tunnel and that, much like for the CS1 gang was able to help him remember.

This and CS1 were fantastic JRPGs and what I consider some of the best Digimon stories ever told. From start to finish it felt like I was watching the show and much like the show, wanted to root for the heroes to succeed, even when they were at their lowest like Arata, Ryuji, Erika, Yu Yuuko and Chitose's arcs, I rooted for them to bounce back.

If anyone is interested in getting these games, please do. The remastered collections are at a fantastic price for two very long, full of content games with a wonderful cast of characters and amazing story.

This is the only video game I’ve ever played that made me cry. That ending was emotionally devastating.

i just finished Hacker's Memory and i feel empty amazing game my favorite Digimon game ever... i can extremely relate to the ending Erika sacrificed herself to save the real world and she wants to be forgotten by everyone cause she thinks that's she is responsible for all of the bad things that happened to her parents and her brother sadness and that are not true that was her fate and that's what makes the story sad..the main character will live a miserable life he loved Erica he wants her and misses her and his Digimons too and no one can understand him..also I think Erica sent the main character to an alternative world in the end a world that Erica was never born in...if you read this go watch Digimon adventure last evolution Kizuna it will make things more depressing.

I just finished this incredible experience on the Switch tonight

And the first thing I did on reloading my save after saving the clear data was use the Transport feature I'd just unlocked to trade the Cyber Sleuth goggles and the Hudie visor between this and my Cybersleuth save

And I immediately put the visor on my Machgaogamon. In my eyes, this was my last gift to my partner before we had to say goodbye.

You're the leader of the new Hudie now, old friend. Take good care of Erika, just as you did our entire party.

God, what an amazing couple of games this ended up being. I wasn't sure what to expect, with these being my first Digimon games, but I have to say that I came out of it completely satisfied with the experience. And I can firmly say that if I ever decide to invest more time into the Digimon series as a whole in the future, I'll have Cybersleuth and Hacker's Memory to thank for it.

No tears when I saw Hudiemon go back to Digital World but they broke out when main character came to the storage room where Erika's room was. Damn Bandai really needs to release Survive very soon. I miss Digimon games.
