How is Izmir turning into a cycling city?

How to become a cycling city? Cycling is now a major global trend, with several city governments announcing bold ambitions to swap cars for bikes, particularly in Europe but also beyond. In Türkiye, the city of Izmir is leading the way and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) is putting a lot of effort in promoting the use of bicycle. In this new UMX video, we went to Izmir to discover some of the cycling projects and initiatives developed by the Municipality to create a bicycle culture.

Sadece turistik ve göz önünde bulunan yerlere bisiklet altyapısı yaparak hiçbir şey çözülmez. Buca'da, Karabağlar'da, Gaziemir'de bisiklet altyapısı kurulması gerekli. Sadece körfez çevresine 2 metal kutu koyup ve 3 tane mavi şeritli yol çekerek bisiklet kültürü oluşturulmaz. Agresif ve büyük çaplı bir şekilde yapılması gerekiyor bu altyapı çalışmalarının. Yoksa hiçbir şey değişmez göstermelik olarak kalır.

Türkiye'de de bu tarz çalışmalar yapıldığını görmek güzel. Umarım giderek tüm Türkiye'de ve tüm dünyada yaygınlaşan bir hareket olur.

Bisimi daha önce kullandım baya zevkli fakat Karşıyaka bostanlıda yol bitiyor ve keşke bostanlı sahilden çiğli kasaplar meydanında bisilklet yolu yapar umarım belediye(not:çiglide bisim istasyonu var)
Yoksa öbür türlü arabaların olduğu otobandan gitmek gerekiyor

There’s absolutely no cycling culture in Izmir. Its only a way to be politically and ethically correct.

Sahil kesimi hariç bisiklet hiç bi işe yaramaz İzmir yokuşu, tepeliği çok fazla olan bi, şehir misal Karataştan Üçyola bisikletle nasıl çıkıcak insan.

Köpekleri toplayın rahat rahat ulaşımımızı sağlayalım bir çok kişi için köpekler tehdit. Bisiklet kullanımını, sokaklarda hatta işlek yerlerde bile hayatı kısıtlıyorlar.

Please add more Bisim bikes😢 every time I try to find one to rent there aren’t any. I’ve found them in the park Kulture- but it’s difficult to find them available! Also- if we’re becoming a bike city- let’s get some actual places to store - our bikes! There isn’t one apartment building on my street with a parking rack to safety lock up a bike if we buy our own😢The only place to park it right now (Oct 2022) is the water pipes inside our building next to the elevator- not ideal😮 or to the metal railings on our floor we share with neighbors not ideal! Hey city planners- kindly “make a solution” before attempting “creating a solution” 😅
Create parking safely for our bikes outside our homes (no, I don’t want a dirty bike in my home gross!)
Then after you’ve actually built many parking spots for our bikes then let’s all buy more personal bikes and get rolling 🚴🚴🏿‍♀️🚵🏽‍♂️🚵🏻‍♀️
