Thoughts and settings on the Hisense 75U8H.

I want to thank the reviewer for their time and effort in creating the reviews for this model series.

So I’ve been living with my Hisense 75U8H for about a month now, and I wanted to share my thoughts and settings for those that may find it useful in some way.

I’m not a gamer so there won’t be anything related to that. I’m fortunate to have a light controlled environment and these settings are mainly based on that, with most viewing done at night and with the ambient light kit also recommended by another reviewer.

The quality is everything that has been said about this model series, including the black levels truly approaching oled territory, with virtually no noticeable blooming. I was concerned at first with the flesh tones, as no matter the source or material, it exhibited an awful pinkish/magenta-ish/sunburned hue, and the greens seemed to narrow themselves down to one dark green color for everything. Played with every setting to no avail. So I reset back to ground zero and pulled out my ancient AVSHD disc and carefully proceeded. So after putting a bunch of hours on the set( yes, they do break-in), and tweaking everything for the different sources and inputs, the color finally started to settle in. The flesh tones are now 90 to 95 percent accurate, yellows and golds and browns look like they’re supposed to without any tint leaning in one direction or another, and the greens now have the variation you would expect to see in a mixed scene of trees and grass, etc.

The following are the settings based on a wide variety of material on all the sources, and in setting the backlight, contrast and local dimming so it doesn’t melt my retinas, but still has a good level of ”kick” and dynamic range. Of particular note is my go-to reference disc of The Fifth Element (the good pressing), because it has such a wide variety of colors and levels of saturation, which makes it challenging to reproduce accurately. Filmmaker Mode was the starting point where applicable for SDR. HDR is kind of all over the place in terms of settings, for me at least. When HDR is flagged, the three default choices that you’re given work for some things but not all, so I’ve had to tweak things based on the particular content being viewed. Again, personal taste and the room it’s being viewed in.

Also, since the Dolby Vision issue has not been fixed at this point, I used the “Custom” mode to tweak that in.

The bottom line is, I feel these are all good starting points before a “real” calibration, but each person has their own taste and preferences, so of course, feel free to tweak-away!

Cheers!

I have the U8G from last year and absolutely love it, i got the U8H for my parents and is an amazing tv as well i prefer the U8G stand but everything else is better on this new TV most notably inky blacks(OLED like), as far as build quality which everyone seems to be worry about i'll give you my 2 cents is solidly build both last year U8G and this year's U8H, everything fits well and the materials seems to be high quality the stand on both are metal and overall is great, picture quality and features is where this TVs shine and for the money there is no better deal, finally i have had my U8G for about a year trouble-free with solid performance so i have high hopes on the U8H as well.

@6:47 - I have this TV connected to an HTPC and the VRR works fine. I have it set to 1440p 120hz and it works with most gaming scenarios including emulators (Dolphin and Redream are a real treat at 4x native with Freesync). Note that tearing may occur if the framerate dips below 60 too often.

I have been with Hisense since 1080p non smart TVs and it's still going strong I have r7 Roku and have a Hisense 65 in H9F and that is what started the QD for Hisense and is my bedroom tv I also have a Sony 49 inch x950h that was 2x cost of H9F it's only marginally better than the 65 in better quality that's saying a lot m, Hisense has been killing it for some time

I was about to return the TV. I took it out the box and it had issues with motion, picture and blur on fast moving objects, but this morning 11-9-22 there was an update that changed the color accuracy and many other things that was wrong with the tv that i wasn’t happy with, but now the tv looks amazing! I’m glad I kept it and didn’t return it! The tv wasn’t upscaling correctly and so many other buggy things. Even how some things are named changed like low, mid-low, medium, cool names changed. This TV is too bright but you can change it to your liking. I don’t think im even going to use 100% screen brightness, i mostly always use only 30% anything higher than 70% brightness is an eye soar. The colors out of the box sucked so much but after the update they are much better than they were before. Man, im so happy with my tv now. Even the contrast is much better now and no longer looks hazy as it did before.

Edit(11-18-22): my only paranoia gripe still is that the tv doesn’t have anywhere the model number; in the about section there’s only a generic “4K tv” for the model number. When doing the first update out of the box it said now updating your U7H which was the sketchiest thing for me. I hope on the next update the company designates a definitive model names on the “ABOUT” section. My second gripe is that the YouTube app that comes with the TV has significantly more ads than on my cell phone for the same videos on my phone. If they can just have the regular amount of ads that would be great! Because it makes watching the free YouTube unwatchable because of how many more extra ads there is. I get it that some YouTubers have more ads than other but it’s not that I’m convinced it’s the TV. Other than that still great.

I have Hisense u6g and it’s by far the best tv I’ve ever purchased considering price to performance. I’ll be picking up the 65 u8h for my living room and moving the u6g to bedroom and I couldn’t be more excited.

I have a cheap Hisense 43" with local dining, Roku for 2019. Paid 220.00 for it. I use also as a computer monitor as well. My Mac mini M1 work great with it. I use an app called EasyRes set at 2304x1296, 60 HZ. It scales perfectly for these old 62 year old eyes. I still have a windows 11 machine hooked up to it, but windows scaling sucks. People are amazed at the picture quality, they cannot believe it's a 220..00 TV.

OK, I am not buying a TV but I am Tech Steve. Your video review of a Hisense A6H convinced me to get it for my garage and that enhanced HDMI setting helped me out.

Not everyone can afford the OLED level of TV's and this fits smack in the middle I hope I can get one during the sale (fingers crossed) cause they're not sold here in Jamaica so gonna have to bring it in. Keep up the good work bro big up yuh self iyah 👍

Good thing I don't have apple or a sound bar....so those cons don't affect me. I would just be mounting it. I do wish you delved into the PS5 gameplay a little more
