Ahh. The glorious "Anteater". Used to run a 3388 2+2. One of my all time favorites. Always be sure to grease the u joints on that one shaft that spins constantly at engine RPM and runs to the back half every day.

I'd give anything to have a 3588, rear duals, and brand new paint and power. Beautiful tractors. Wish Case would've kept them today. Can you imagine a "2022 Case IH Magnum 2+2 340".

"How long have you had it"

"Oh not too long, just long enough"

let me tell you, thats about 5 minutes, I love my 3588, these tractors are impressive

One of the best tractors ever. IH listened to the farmers on this one. But then IH workers got hypnotized by the UAW and went on strike in the late 70s. The IH strike hurt IH a lot. It probably didn't keep them from going under, but it definitely sped it up.

Somebody someday might bring this design back. Great visibility to the back and equal weight over both axles. Too bad Case IH dropped them. Once perfected it could have been quite a thing.

If there ever were a "gentle giant" in the world of tractors, this would be it.

Great piece of IH history, even if the audio track is a bit cheesy.
Thanks for finding this film and putting it here.
The 2+2 tractors are true row crop tractors and are amazingly nimble for their size.
Previous to this 4WD tractors were mainly used for broadacre grain farming.
Regards from Michael, an Australian IH tractor enthusiast.

Fun Fact: international had a fleet of 2 Great Lakes Freighters. Their names? The SS International and SS Harvester

Cool tractors, I wish the farming industry would have gone this way with tractors like this and the White and Caseih rowcrop special articulated tractors rather than these stupid looking fwa tractors they make these days .

We had a 6588 for decades. As a kid growing up it was the easiest "big" tractor to operate and learn on. Just point and go. We upgraded to a Steiger Cougar later on. The Steiger was more powerful and better, but the steering had a learning curve when seeding or harrowing as you needed to run past where you wanted to go.

The 2+2 was an interesting machine. We did demo one. We were in a none row crop area and used mainly articulated machines. For our area the main downside of this machine was it could not be use duals. If we could have we highly likely would have bought the demo for lighter work. By the time IHC figured out we wanted duals IHC was in such bad financial shape we were only buying IHC machinery with extreme caution.

We had 1 of the 319 6788 2+2s growing up that had the pump turned up far enough it'd leave a smoke trail from one end of the field to the other pulling a 5 shank earthmaster. It was a fun tractor to run, but our 7140 Magnum was where I rode most of the time.

They were a good tractor. The only down side was that front axel. Not nearly enough oscilation. Ive seen quite a few of them with broken axels, most of the time from running duals though. Thanks for putting this up.

I grew up using a 3388 and a 3788 nearly every day. I prefer using them over a conventional tractor for almost any use. You obviously can't just put your foot on one brake and spin around at the end of the field like the others, but it makes up for it in traction.

I know I’ve heard farmers who used these really talk highly of them. But I remember when they first started showing up at the dealership, I thought that long anteater looking snout was the ugliest thing I’d ever seen and it looked like you’d have to take them to the airport to turn them around at the end of the row.

I still think the 66 and 86 series were the best looking tractors any manufacturer ever built. I guess I’m partial because that’s what we farmed with.

this tractor seems to be in high demand now I guess the rest of world has finally caught up to what the engineers created

Hey nothing wrong with the old stuff. It's what got the job done and that's all that matters.

And you get International's infamous rear ends with final drives still from the OG Farmall Regular's that we've been known to pass on and on and on from one model to the rest.... it's what makes your IH an
