"Does it make sense to have a 500hp daily driver?" FUCK YES

Not only the first 5-series with a v-10, but the first production sedan to ever have a v-10. Quite a piece of history... Collector car for sure.

Say what you want, I truly ADORE the looks of the e60 M5

He was commenting on the rough suspension while in M mode, which sets the EDC to level 2 and makes the suspension MUCH stiffer. When you set the dampers to soft, it is not too bad of a ride.

EDC is not stability control it is electronic damper control. (It stiffens up the suspension for better handling in the corners)

I have a lot of dream cars, from the likes of Lamborghini and Aston Martin and various “exotic” brands. Unfortunately, as a college student who is graduating in a year, those cars are reserved for 30’s and 40’s, if I’m lucky, with a 12 year loan. That leaves me with around $30k for a car after college that will get me to and from a desk job. I could either get a new Honda Civic that will be reliable and have good MPG ratings, but having a slice of exotic car ownership that I could theoretically drive every day is very appealing.
I’ve personally driven in one, and I’ve also driven in cars like a Huracan and Murcielago SV (in my profile pic!). I kid you not, the M5 truly compares in craziness and drama that the half million dollar Lambo’s create. Revving to 8k RPM literally feels like warp speed, and it can drift any corner with half throttle with the EDC turned off. I’ve also driven a new M4, and while it compares with power, the M5 beats it in regard to sheer scariness - it literally scared the crap out of me if I gunned the M5, not so much with the M4. You genuinely feel like you’re going warp-speed.
I think this car, as unreliable as it is, is the coolest car in the world for the money. The maintenance and gas costs are high, but to someone who wants a piece of exotic lifestyle, it’s worth it.
At the end of the day, would you rather get into your Civic and blend in with everyone else and hate driving back home every day, or would you like to come out of the office, turn on your V10 monster of an engine, rev it to 8k RPM on the onramp, and smile the whole way, not wanting to turn it off and just keep driving?

That SMG gearbox is why it's so cheap there's a reason BMW stopped making them after this generation

I am the proud owner of one of the 300, E63 M6 Coupe Manuals. I've actually never had it on the road yet because I bought it already with a shot VANOS pump. I have the engine removed right now and I'm doing several things including the rod bearings. Can't wait to get that thing on the road and feel what it can do!

6 speed e60 m5 owner here...Love mine.  I have daily driven her for over 100, 000 miles in Southern California.  Replaced my rod bearings as normal "wear item" at 82, 000 miles.  BTW, 2007 was the first year for the 6 speed.

Been subbed for lil while now and I have to say your style of filming and description of cars are really spot on and not sugar coated . Appreciate the honesty and thorough front to back overall look at everything. Hard to find people like you that know what they are talking about and when u don't you also point it out . 👍🏻👍🏻

I worked as a tech for BMW when these came out and loved getting to do software update to allow burnouts.

E60 M5 manual started in M.Y. 2007. I remember and always wanted. It took 10 years, but found a 2008 M.Y. 6spd and love it!

This car gets slammed for reliability, but when serviced correctly, is not near as bad as some other German offerings.

Rod bearings (have not been done at 80k miles), but monitoring with Blackstone oil analysis and good old fashion "sound detection"

VANOS H.P. line can fail, throttle actuators can be rebuilt.

Most dangerous item is a leaking fuel injector. Can result in hydro lock, bent rod, and destroy engine. Again, manageable with proper maintenance and not running with MIL light.

Very fun car!

I absolutely love the e60 style. I've owned a 545i and 550i, both horrifically unreliable cars but they just drive like nothing else. I've been looking for a e60 m5, I know they aren't reliable and I know they're a money pit but no model before or after drives the way the e60 does. It's other worldly.

The headlights/running lights on this car are probably the most iconic/unique car lights in existence :D
