It's important to go to welding school but it is more important to learn how to weld. It doesn't matter what you do just practice and keep practicing. Nobody can hold your hand. It's up to you

That might be a good place to put a Golden Rod dehumidifier for like a gun safe.

Taylor Welding... My dad used to have an old freezer or two with a light in them in his welding business form the 70's to the 90's. He used to say "keep them rods warm and dry". I still do the same thing today. Thanks for sharing this and bringing back his memories. New subscriber here.

Silica packs have helped me, but it's tough because I have to store them in the garage. Thanks for the tips!

Good tip that. Rust is a big problem here in the UK. I use either gaffer tape or sometimes shrink wrap.

I used to sell welding equipment in OKC but had to leave due to cancer. I just wanted to qualify myself before say that you can determine the age of Lincoln rods by the serial number or Q number, but I can't remember how to figure it out. You could ask your supplier. Love your channel and makes me miss it even more

Spray CRC SP 400 on the rod container and metal that makes contact with it. We use it in offshore applications where conditions are pretty harsh on mild steel. CRC makes a silicone spray grease as well that is great for tools in general. It flashes off quick but leaves a nice clean coating. The coating from the silicone isn’t as thick and ugly as 400.

Absolutely love your videos!!!

Taylor thank you for your insight about storing rod to Prevent dampness…. I’d like to trick of the old refrigerator there’s another YouTuber that uses the refrigerator for his outside storage for his tools ……..he’s over in Washington state can’t think of the name of it now but he’s a funny guy Jeff Bradshaw is his name can’t give you his YouTube handle but he puts all his tools in an old refrigerator when he’s outside for a shop very clever thanks for the tip Samuel bacon

That's why they make rod ovens. Invest in one and eliminate the problem

I got a vacuum sealer, like for food stuff. Then you can get Mylar vacuum bags and just vacuum seal as many as you want.

Simple but effective, these rods are getting expensive!

On containers with lids can you spray Bloxygen (argon) in the can? Its meant for keeping paint/stain/food from going bad by replacing the oxygen? Never thought about it for rod storage.

I bought this 16" plastic seam sealer several years ago to srink wrap a bunch of items, then the other day I had this idea, what if I got some poly tube and sealed my 7018 rods one at a time in this 16" by 2mil tube(from Amazon), its looks like a belt of ammo for a machine gun. I sealed 10 rod's per pack then put the packs in "Rod Guard" tube's with a few desicant packets. all this was done as soon as I opened the sealed cans of low/hy rod. Now all i do is pull out the 10 pack poke the rod through the plastic pull it out and weld away, the other rods stay sealed and protected from moisture. I am not doing rockitship pipe welding just shade tree rod gobbing and my welds ain't underbead cracking or nutten, beats feeding a ten gigl-watt power sapping rod oven for 10# of 3/32 or 1/8 lo/hy

Amateur welder here, I'm using a pelican case with desiccant packs that are reusable.

I had an old refrigerator with a 20 watt light bulb I've used for years to keep my rods dry and safe . Have you ever tried that, Mr Taylor ??

What are your thoughts on throwing a little dessicant bag in the rod box too for moisture control? Like the little bags that come with new sneakers?

So by me leaving my rods in my truck toolbox all summer long, causes them to hold moisture.. that explains the recent hard start ups with my 6010/7018..
