SCOOP: Amazon workers in NYC are going on strike right before Christmas — the company's busiest time. The first unionized Amazon warehouse is going to shut down in a historic walkout. Workers plan to hit the company where it hurts to win their first union contract.

More Perfect Union’s mission is to build power for working people. Here’s what that means:

We report on the real struggles and challenges of the working class from a working-class perspective, and we attempt to connect those problems to potential solutions.

We report on the abuses and wrongdoing of corporate power, and we seek to hold accountable the ultra-rich who have too much power over America’s political and economic systems.

We're an independent, nonprofit newsroom. To support our work:

Every write up for drinking water or going to the bathroom should be considered (recorded proof of) a human rights violation.

“we want to drink water without getting written up” absolutely disgusting

Imagine how effective a strike would be if ALL the Amazon workers across the whole world went on strike for the week before Christmas.

I have a permanent back injury due to Amazon. They tried to find every reason in the book to try to make it seem like it was my fault, as well as the camera footage was *Conveniently* missing when I planned to sue. I'll never be able to hold my child, I'm extremely limited in what I do which has closed a ton of doors for me. Amazon is an awful company and it's horrible.

Never have I ever allowed any company I have worked for tell me I can't use the bathroom

Nowadays everything I hear about Amazon is negative and workers over there are overworked and underpayed.

Unions gave us Weekends, Pensions, Healthcare, Worker Safety, Worker Rights. They paid in blood and lives for these things. Support the Unions!

I don’t care when I get my package. These people deserve to have a Christmas too.

We need to change culturally and be satisfied with getting items a little slower. instant gratification takes a toll on community health.

Don't forget postal workers suffer too; the amount of times people say "i didn't know you guys worked Sundays" it's so sad. It's because of Amazon, I'm delivering you an amazon package

I've done roofing, I've done decking, I've worked on cars, I've worked in multiple electrical companies, nothing compares to the amount of harassment and abuse Amazon has put me through. I respect you all for putting your foot down and fighting for basic human rights. Thank you ALU! ❤

Couldnt agree more. I was an Amazon delivery driver for about 4 months and the expectations and workload are insane and completely unrealistic to sustain. The shifts are long, the demands are ridiculous, you’re under constant surveillance, breaks, while “encouraged”, are almost impossible to take without putting you behind (meaning you have to work later and may get questioned or talked to about your metrics when you turn the van in at the end of your shift), its dangerous (was almost bit by a dog twice within 4 months), and the pay SUCKS for what you have to endure. Only benefit was that I lost 20lbs because it was so physically demanding and fast paced. All this to say, I don’t recommend working there at all and I hope what you are doing will make a difference!

This is why here in Sweden we boycotted Tesla when it didn't accept our union laws.

The irony is that there are better deals outside of Amazon... Amazon has just become a brand name for "convenience." Not necessarily "cheaper". Search the internet, including direct from manufacturer. You may be surprised that you can get better deals elsewhere. Just because it says "Amazon Pick", it's not a better or cheaper product, it's just likely that Amazon makes a better profit from that specific product when sold.

Most people dont need there package in 24 hours. This promise to deliver at super fast speed by Amazon is unnecessary and dangerous to its employees. We have all been spoiled at the cost of the environment and human suffering.

I worked at a warehouse one peak season. Keep fighting, you deserve to be treated better and so so your families. Amazon isn't just hurting you but your families miss you too.

Working at UPS during COVID, and during the holidays was one of the worst experiences of my life. I respect these workers so much for doing this.

We worked 8+ hours, 6 days a week, and the only thanks we got afterwards was a pay cut. I quit with no notice, and I dont regret it. Know your worth, people.

Based. Not even mad about the shit people won’t get on Christmas. We don’t need all this crap in our lives anyway

I've never worked for Amazon, but have worked in warehouses run by big corporations for 25 years and I have no doubt everything these workers are saying is 100% true.

Plus, my friend worked for Amazon one time when he got laid off two years ago. He said that job was so horrible he would rather be homeless than work there again. That should tell you a lot. A company that makes so much money shouldn’t have any workers suffering or anything. Companies suck you dry and don’t even pay you well for it.
