I really enjoy these old films...better than the new ones made today!

As a former 11B, I appreciate the Can Do attitude, the willingness to sacrifice oneself, and the leadership of the Captain

I agree with the commenter below. These old movies are much better than anything Hollywood produces nowadays.

As a Boomer whose Dad was a WWII Pacific Marine I love these movies. Ive always liked Cliff Robertson and it is a shame his career was often overshadowed by the plethora of big stars of his era.

Love these great movies. I wish more of today's generation would watch these movies. Maybe they would show a little more respect for those who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today.

I love the pike robertson does off the sub about 28:50. My dad learned how to swim in the navy. They threw his over board and told him to learn how to swim, he did!

At the coral, we sank a light carrier the Shoho.
Lost the Lexington .
However the invasion of Port Moseby and Australia was stopped.
At Midway, destroyed all 4 Japanese carriers which was the turning point of us gaining control of Pacific.
Another major Battle of Leyte Gulf allowed us the recapture the Philippines.

The best this film could do is a quote from Public Relations officer John Bergen? "On May 18, 1942, was called to active duty. He was soon promoted to Commander and assigned to the Secretary of the Navy's office. After completing a course at the Naval War College, he reported to Commander Fleet Air, South Pacific. From December 1943 to March 1944 he served at the Naval Station Puget Sound. In April 1944 he was made Chief of Staff and Public Relations Officer to the Commandant of the Base. He was detached for terminal leave on August 27, 1944, and released on inactive status three months later."

Billy Jack (Tom Laughlin) 5:45 "Lieutenant, it just seems if the Navy wanted a periscope camera, they would have invented one."

Just fun to watch people-relax! All those old war movies are fun to watch.

I’m a former Navy jet carrier pilot…Top Gun wasn’t accurate but a fun movie. Some of my shipmates from VF-1 were in the movie.

Old boomer here, pop was on the Lexington, welder and fireman, we saw this year's ago together, he just chuckled in the end. Good old Hollywood, the prison camp musta been shot in California, there were cactus on that island!

This is great war film. I always liked Cliff Robertson. But the title should probably not be "The Battle of the Coral Sea, " since it is only presented as a synopsis at the end of what is really a POW escape film.

Never heard of this movie in my 60 yrs. Thanks for sharing it here!

10:27. Just gets scolded for risking his submarine, men and a general to save two flyers, then he’s told his submarine and crew are expendable in a top secret intel gathering mission. 😮

Why is this called "battle of the coral sea"? Its just a movie about a prisoner camp.

All the crew who survived the loss of U.S.S. Lexington must have despised this abomination.
