We would like to take the time to acknowledge and thank the many contributors that made this day possible, most importantly highlighting our keynote speaker, a Mi’gmaq Educator and Professor in the Department of Education Foundation at the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Marie Battiste. Dr. Battiste has written and lectured extensively on cognitive imperialism, Indigenous knowledge, and the decolonization of Aboriginal education. On August 29th 2016, she addressed all education staff and future teachers from the McGill B.Ed. program on what it means to decolonize education and the steps required to get there. A special thank you also goes to Dr. Fred Metallic and Sandra Germain who also spoke on the topic, and to Felix Atencio-Gonzales for filming the presentation.
