What if we made an app that could tell us how crowded the buses are and redirect us to alternative options?

Our idea would integrate private and public mobility, creating a policy model for cities all over Europe.

In order to avoid the overload of the public transport, it is necessary to give the costumers quick and easy access to other available alternatives. To do so, we have devised a system that potentially connects all the pre-existing modes of transport.

We are a group of seven Italian college freshmen, none of us majoring in tech-related subjects; our idea was born out of a willingness to face this global challenge that has impacted all our lives. Our backgrounds are varied: we come from the Medicine, Physics and Social Sciences fields, and we are attempting to bridge our competences in order to develop a creative and sustainable solution.

The restrictions on movement imposed by various European governments in response to the Covid-19 crisis present policymakers with a blank slate in the state of transportation. This represents a unique opportunity to revolutionize our transportation systems, accounting for the new medical needs of the population while at the same time decisively acting on environmentally friendly solutions.

It is indeed expected that the general public lose faith in the safety of public transportation, therefore resorting to less eco-friendly solutions. This increased private car usage will inevitably exacerbate traffic congestion. The need to avoid this scenario warrants the attention of the public sector, to which we propose an innovative policy model.

Our idea consists in the integration of all existing transportation modes, in order to maintain a functioning and efficient traffic flow while discouraging the usage of private, single-passenger, gasoline-fueled transportation.
