Lots of fun. Been in the hobby since 09 and have had dozens of boats trucks. I have a XMaxx e revo slash vxl traxxas m41. Invest in some lipos. Expensive initial cost but if you take care of them they well outperform nimh batteries.

Even though hobby grade RC cars can be easily repaired, you should never, ever, in the world, let your such a young son to operate hobby grade RC cars. They're not toys, they're dangerous vehicles that can injure you. You don't want your boy to get laid into the hospital.
