In order to achieve efficient oil-water separation, scientists have developed a new type of wood sponge absorbent material using natural renewable wood as raw material. Choose low-density balsa wood (90 mg/cm3) as raw material. The lignin and hemicellulose in the wood cell wall are stripped orderly through chemical treatment, and the cellulose skeleton is retained, and then freeze-dried to prepare a wood sponge with low density, high porosity and layered structure. In order to obtain hydrophobic/lipophilic properties of the material, vapor deposition is used to deposit a polysiloxane coating on the surface of the wood sponge cellulose skeleton to give the material good hydrophobic properties and retain its original pore structure. The finally obtained wood sponge material has high elastic properties. After 100 cycles of compression tests, the rebound rate remains at 99%. The material has good oil absorption performance, the maximum oil absorption can reach 41 times its own weight, and the adsorbed oil can be recovered by the method of squeezing the oil. After multiple squeezing, the oil absorption is basically maintained.
