He reviewed this car twice, that's how you know he likes it.

I own the 34 gtr in bayside blue and i don't think i could ever sell it.

They're definitely overrated in terms of price but man do they feel so special to drive, I love it.

That color scheme alone is something else. If you think the R34 is rare today, finding one in Midnight Purple would be close to impossible. Heck, only 0.5% (less than 1%!) of all R34 GT-Rs ever sold came in that color. Whoever ends up with that unicorn of a car truly is lucky.
Now we see why Doug had to do another R34 review - this particular example warrants it.

It wasn't just a 180km/h speedo, there's was also a speed limiter by Japanese law. One feature of the R35 when it came out is the JDM versions use the navigation to tell when you're on a track and disables the limiter.

Just a little info about the different versions of the R34 GT-R
1. The “standard” GT-R: it was the base version (if you can call any version of this car basic)
2. V-Spec: The one Doug reviewed, as he said it added a rear LSD and also an improved ATTESA system, stiffer suspension, a new splitter and diffuser.
3. V-Spec N1: Homologation version, stripped out of any luxuries like radio, A/C and carpet.
4. M-Spec: the “luxury” version, similar to the V-spec with leather heated seats and a stiffer rear sway bar.
5. V-Spec II: Similar to the original V-Spec, with upgraded brakes, even stiffer suspension and a carbon fibre hood with a NACA duct
6. V-Spec II N1: Homologation version that is even more stripped out than the first N1.
7. M-Spec Nür and V-Spec II Nür: The last 1000 of the R34 GT-R’s, upgraded with larger turbos, more power, a 300 km/h speedometer and a different color for the cam cover.
8. Z-Tune: The last variant of the R34 GT-R, Nismo bought 19 used GT-R’s to build these since the production was already over and they stripped it all together, the car ended up producing 500hp with a replaced engine called the Z2, Nismo also replaced the brakes, wheels, bodywork and suspension. Only 19 Z-Tunes were ever made, including 2 prototypes

Say what you will about the R34 but Midnight Purple has to be one the most beautiful car colors ever.

This is VINTAGE Doug. Outside (NOT in a studio), ALONE, and 20 + minutes going into the tiniest details about the car all the while conveying GENUINE interest and enthusiasm. Reviews like this are why I started watching Doug in 2016-2017, and I felt like his enthusiasm and interest in what is his bread and butter has been waning. It's nice to see that fire is still in there even though he won't starve if he stopped YT entirely.

Got a fright at 20:45 when that Freightliner took a turn 😂

I think It’s also important to note, there are multiple versions of midnight purple. The first midnight purple (LP2) came out on the R33 and I believe there no drastic color shift
Later on, Nissan introduced Midnight purple II AND III for the R34. The car Doug is reviewing is MPM II, which shifts from purple to green tones. The more iconic midnight purple, MPM III, shifts from purple tones to blue and orange/gold tones.

Everyone who played Gran Tourismo back in the 90’s knew how to dial in the settings 😂. I remember the first time seeing one in real life. Me and a van full of coworkers followed it around ooohing and ahhhing over it’s right hand drive glory. It was a rare bird to see in the USA in the year 2000. Legendary.

I lived in Japan in 96 and the Sentra the company gave me was like the best car I’ve ever driven. I went through 4 cars that year-also had the blue bird!

Hey Doug, I really hope you see this
I truly miss the old days when you would put a camera on the side of the road and drive pass it so we would see how the car actually looks on the streets! Wish you start doing that again

This car is almost 25 years old, and it still looks at home on the road. I think that says something about the level of engineering and detail that went into this car

I love the R34 so much. Such an iconic timeless piece of automotive history. Makes me giddy just watching videos about it.

The styling of this car is just so iconic! One of the most memorable cars from my childhood. It's got the "it" factor all around.

Props to you for not just reviewing new cars, but also ones that matter a lot to the car community.

Now that he doesn't have to worry about cash, Doug is doing a lot more cars that he's actually interested in these days rather than the latest gargantuan SUV and 12 minutes on its infotainment system. And the channel is all the better for it.

Absolutely bang on about the steering, best steering feel of any car I’ve ever driven and it’s the thing I noticed right away the first time I drove one.

Years ago when he reviewed the blue one, my jaw dropped when he said these were selling for over $50k usd.
Now they're supposedly selling for over $200k, I'm not even surprised anymore, based on how other collectible cars have space-rocketed.
