The eviction moratorium that was put in place to help hundreds of thousands of struggling tenants during the pandemic is set to expire in New York on Saturday. Crowds came out Wednesday in Manhattan to protest the move while lawmakers say they're working on ways to get more relief; CBS2's Dick Brennan reports.

But how long did people expect this rent moratorium to go on...people need to get back to reality, however, I will say that NYC rent is ridiculous, and price gouging is rampant. We need to stabilize rent costs because they’re outrageous for the average New Yorker.

The people in the protest didn’t look to stressed out or starving. Most had nice clothes, were carrying IPhones and tablets, I saw a couple drinking beer, and the interviewed looked very well fed.

Healthcare workers must work hard throughout the entire pandemic even when we are sick with covid (thanks CDC), but these people can stay at home and keep getting free money?? The entitlement is insane.

If you dine in a restaurant, will you refuse to pay the bill saying I'm struggling with the pandemic so I cannot pay?

It's been two years. Enough is enough. Pay your rent or get a tent. Simple as that.

This is an easy fix if you want NY/Government to pay your rent they should create a public sanitation program. Every able bodied person between 18-65 must pick up a broom, pressure washer, rake etc. and help clean up NYC streets/sidewalks and subway platforms under Sanitation and MTA supervision. For them to continue to receive these benefits and any other benefits (food stamps etc) they must work 35 hours a week minimum. That’s a win-win rents get paid and the city gets clean. Then no one can complain.

Gov't should pay the landlords directly

The thing is alot of landlords aren't excepting housing vouchers because they don't want the problems some of the homeless bring for example drugs. The bad tenants make it hard for everyone.

I really think they need to get a job. Because rent can’t be canceled. The landlords need to pay bills too. And stop expecting free rent. I moved back in with my family and I’m saving Aton.

Also inflation is a real threat. If the Democrats give them what they want, then lord the future will be so bad. Prices will go up to fast, our savings and 401k becomes worthless etc.

HEY HEY HO HO NO PAY PAY YOU GOT TO GO HEY HEY HO HO NO PAY PAY YOU GOT TO GO HEY HEY HO HO NO PAY PAY YOU GOT TO GO I’m a smalll property owner. I sold (more like forced to sell ) my property 5 years ago in NY because of people like this. Landlord have no leg to stand on while in court. Tenant lived in my property for over a year with no rent paid. I had to pay her to move. Right after that I sold it. Why do they all think we’re rich. I’m just trying to play the hand that we’re all dealt with.
