My N55 has almost 400, 000km on the clock, definitely my favourite engine ever!

Definitely one of the best sounding bmw Engines got a 435i 211K just with standard maintenance done and tuned and still going strong

Stage 1 tuned it for 5 years... very solid, it did value cover gasket, and oil cooler gasket and plugs. 155, 000km

I have an N55 with 188, 000KM. Mine has the S55 rods & bearings and the 4" turbo outlet. Only things were the water pump and thermostat. Also recently replaced the valve cover gasket but the original lasted 187, 000KM after I found some minor leakage. I can say my N55 has been reliable to date.

N55 only real problems under 450hp is vcg and chargepipe, got both done on my car and its perfect

Never owned a bmw and wanting to get one. From my research the b58 definitely sounds a lot nicer to live with than the n55
Although the n55 also seems decent enough.
And post 2015 n20s don’t sound bad either.

n55 is best if your looking for a more reliable boosted engine since it only has one turbo it means there is least heat which is know to crack plastic and cause problems like in the n54 but the n52 is a great option for a daily driver both are good they all have the same problems bascilly spak plugs igniton coil valve cover oil filter housing gaskets and oil pan and cooling sysytem but that is all maintance items when it come to beamers
