How to fix a stuck key on the New Macbook Pro - Butterfly Keyboard

If you have been experiencing stuck keys on the new Macbook Pro, this tutorial will show you how to fix the problem.

Apple have Provided some support notes on how to do it so I have provided you with a link below:

Sticky keys are not uncommon, and usually occur if dust or food particles become lodged in the spaces between the keys. In the past you could dislodge the keys and clean them, however with the new Macbook Pro since the late model released in 2016 it is no longer possible to remove the keys without damaging them, so in this tutorial I will show you how to safely remove the dust from your keyboard.

I have heard reports that this issue has affected all Macbook Pros with the new butterfly keyboard mechanism which ranges from 2016, 2017 and 2018 models.

Worked for me when I tried blowing air from my mouth into the space bar. Few things to note :

1. The angle of tilt is very important.
2. Remember to blow the air in the zig-zag pattern.

Lastly, a 2000$ laptop shouldn't have such stupid issues.

What ended up fixing my stuck key was using one of the Macbook silicone keyboard covers. I placed it on and pressed every key down. I then used it normally for about 30 minutes with the cover still on. When I removed it, the key became unstuck. Good as new! This may or may not work for you but definitely worth the try

I am surprised apple still did not release an iDuster - an Apple branded keyboard dust remover..
it seems like this is what their business strategy is - create problems and then Apple products to solve those problems

This video shows the safest (proper) way to do it. Thanks! Be extremely cautious about other yt tutorials - on how to remove the stuck key and dust it out. In the new models, there is some kind of protective thin foil under the keys (return/enter key - it was in my case) which most of the videos do not show it.(?) It is not so simple to get the key back into position once you break the foil.

Wonderful! My spacebar was stuck and I started a chat with an Apple Advisor with no real direction towards resolving this. This worked great! I used cool air from a hairdryer and it worked. I am so relieved. Thanks 👍

OMG! Didn't even need a can of air - seriously. I found a straw in the drawer, held it at an angle, and voila!

I'v always been a fan of Apple's willingness to revamp every aspect of their designs every time they release as new product -but there's a really simple solution that I cannot believe Apple never thought to implement. Just cover the entire keyboard in a solid uniform sheet film - like the keyboard covers you can get for it, but built in.

I have actually fixed my keyboard by pressing the stucked key a multiple times! It crushed the so-called stuck particle inside and it is now working perfectly! Thank you for your advice.

I have a MacBook Pro 2018 just a few weeks old, and today one of the keys got stuck. This did fix it immediately though, thank you. The deeper issue is that Apple are loosing it. I had the MacBook Pro 2009 for 7 years without a single problem! Fast forward to 2018 and there are issues already a few weeks in. Makes you wonder what you've signed up for. =) At the same time a friend is doing a factory reset on her MacBook Pro 2017 because it was acting up. This is the end of Apple as we've know it isn't it? At least the end for their 'professional' line, and we all know everything else will follow. Anyhow. Bit of venting there. Thanks again, all the best
