👉 Learn how to classify polynomials. A polynomial is an expression of the sums/differences of two or more terms having different interger exponents of the same variable. A polynomial can be classified in two ways: by the number of terms and by its degree.

A monomial is an expression of 1 term. A polynomial of two terms is called a binomial while a polynomial of three terms is called a trinomial, etc. The degree of a polynomial is the greatest exponent of its variable. The coefficient of the variable with the greatest exponent is called the leading coefficient of the polynomial. A polynomial is said to be linear if its degree is 1, quadratic if its degree is 2, cubic if its degree is 3, etc. Note that you must expand all factored terms in the expression before you can be able to classify the polynomial.
