I had a Super Bowl party with about 60 people when the cops showed for a noise complaint and immediately entered the house and asked for the owner(me). I had just got the house and they didn’t believe I owned it. Long story short. They seized my property without warrant and I sued them and settled out of court for $10, 000.

Don’t forget to leave all drinks inside before exiting. Old roommate got arrested for open container when he crossed the threshold. It was the third time cops came by for a noise complaint also. We had just kicked everyone (maybe 12 or more “guests”) out after the second visit, but people stayed in hallway making a racket for 15-20 minutes before leaving.
When cops came by for third time, they asked him to step outside to discuss problem and literally put him in cuffs within 45 seconds of stepping out with his beer. They asked what was in cup, he said beer and they told him to turn around. His other roommate was too intoxicated to talk, but another friend kept them from coming in. We had maybe 6 people left inside, including the two who lived there, so me and another 3 guests. Guy stepped out, empty handed. Asked officers where our friend was going and exchanged banter. They seemed fine with leaving with first guy only and said that party was over.
Me and my roommate at time walked home and got picked up about a half mile from our door. Deputy offered a ride to door and we being dumb kids who were used to deputies playing cab and took safe ride home. He immediately pulled over, popped his lights, called for backup and put us both in cuffs while asking us each where we were coming from, separately. They took us home and wanted to follow us in. Security for school (dorms were apartments in a complex) intervened and said they had no further reason for harassing us and they ended up lecturing me and friend for some time. Sun was coming up when older deputy who was second on scene told us to tell our friends “Don’t fuck with county”.
Before that interaction with deputies, I had always viewed cops as just doing job and treated them with great deference. Like mentioned earlier, deputies I had dealt with before in home town would give rides home to walkers, knew most people on a casual basis, would hangout in stores while on patrol to chat and I had even done a ride along with the sheriffs department (Alamance county, NC) my last year of high school. After that though, I accepted the view of harassment and overreach that happens with the power they have.
So if you come to Charleston, SC…don’t fuck with county.

I was at a party that got crashed by the cops… We had my wife answer the door who was completely sober and seven months pregnant. Comical how wonderful the cops were about the whole deal.
