Is the needle valve being pushed down by something in the pump or is it being pressed down to let air in by the air pressure of the pump ?

Or, , just wrap your shoe lace around the valve? flat ones work better, but round laces are good as well, one or more circles around the valve and no adapters needed...

I did that as a kid 30 yeats ago to inflate my bike tires at gas stations where there were only schrader (car) valve ends on the air machine
