Here is a short (well, it is now) video of my upgrade from FreeBSD 12.1 to 12.2 on my main machine, "mars" (my network is solar solar system themed...) - it is simple and painless, but long....

Can't wait till FreeBSD 13 comes out in March

Finally got 12.2 to work by installing an inexpensive nVidia card instead of the onboard Intel graphics. Should have done it when I built this earlier this year, but hadn't gotten around to it. FreeBSD problems prompted me to order one, so everything turned out fine.

I just installed freebsd 12.2, also I'm brand new to bsd. Now I need to setup xorg. It seems way easier than doing arch from scratch

as reported by others, drm-kmod intel issues after upgrade, building from ports using 12.2 releng sources solves issue

Well, I’ll wait a few more days until make this upgrade. Some annoying complaints about it atm. Nice job, mate! 🍻

@Robonuggie: drm-kmod (drm-fbsd) issue with 12.2 . No X (display) for Intel HD graphics in 12.2. Solution is to build drm-fbsd12.0 from ports. And, that needs kernel sources to be downloaded! Something like ~1.5GB of files. FreeBSD drm-kmod/drm-fbsd12 packages for 12.2 will be only available after the 12.1 dot release support time is over - which is another 2-3 months from now. It will be great to see a video - if you know how to use "Synth" or a simple Poudriere setup for single desktop machines that will allow only needed packages to be rebuilt.

Can I ask why it took 3 hours? Was it just due to download speeds, or does the upgrade itself take a long time?

Upgraded to 12.2 with a little problem with Intel drivers. More information in this freebsd forum:

Thanks Christopher

Hello Chris. Yesterday I did an install on my fourth machine. But it was the first using a USB install media. All went fine, everything installed [even "Hypnotix"!!]. BUT, it wasn't until I went to do an 'freebsd-update fetch' that I realised I had installed STABLE as opposed to all my other RELEASE versions. Believe you me, this had launched me into a world of unknowns? I'm not sure where the update/upgrade functionality goes from here - information on the STABLE update/UPGRADE path is very slim on the ground? Strange, as there is a massive amount relating too the RELEASE variant? Are they SOOO different at the end of the day?
So, I guess my simple question is, should I scrub and reinstall the RELEASE deliberately, or can I happily stick with STABLE, and at one time or another, be offered an update/upgrade path to 12.3 STABLE, or even, 13.0 STABLE..? I have tried to find similar for 'older' [earlier variants] of FreeBSD to 12.0 STABLE, with little or no success; all the documentation refers to VERY vague 'source' implementation method - very unlike all the other documentation that abounds for FreeBSD...
Now trying to find something on YouTube that fits my search.
Best wishes, stay safe....

The update took me 15 minutes. But the new version gives me the following problem: it stops the clamd daemon after 03:00 am. That's the time periodic daily works. I still have to find a cure for this...

Is it possible to mount any drive ntfs/fat32/exfat using only livefs from freebsd 12.2 dvd iso? I tried but it didn't worked for me as /dev/* works in a different way in linux. If it's possible can you share exact cmd too? Thanks in advance.

Broke my desktop machine. Screen goes black during boot. I burned a 12.2 DVD and it did the same. Now I'm going into the bootloader and using "boot kernel.old" to use this machine.

I'll burn a 13-CURRENT DVD and see if that works.
