Since you brought up slingshots, that's got me thinking about what sort of safety practices would be involved with using a slingshot. Like, I'm wondering what sort of safety practices done with bows and guns are easily translatable to slingshots, and what additional safety practices would be required.

Some people probably think of slingshots as toys and so safety shouldn't be an issue, but even the toy ones can be quite harmful if mishandled. Furthermore, there are such thing as hunting slingshots, the frame of which braces against the forearm, and it uses metal ball bearings as ammo. I've seen one be put to use against a cement block and it easily broke a chunk of it off.

Don't aim at people you don't intend to shoot, don't shoot into the air, and be mindful of where the projectile will go if you miss, all seem obviously transferable from bows/guns to slingshots. I'm going to assume slingshots shouldn't be dry fired too, simply because dry firing would be a dangerous habit to pick up. Another thing to keep in mind is what material the band is made of and how to identify when it expires. Rubber, when it expires, feels gritty and rough, and you'll see that it stops stretching evenly, with hard clumps forming between the stretching material. Expired bands are prone to snap and should be replaced before use.

Awesome video as always, I remember as a kid thinking it was the elastic band hahaha, but then I grew up and learned it was from the stick, still a nice video sumarizing and explaining few detailes most people surely didn't know.

Wow I never knew that. I thought bows worked like slingshots, so I was confused how ancient hunters created bows without rubber or elastic string

Thank you so much for this explanation - It was really helpful in writing my book Financial Rebellion - I wanted to use the metaphor of Reframing your Bow - your explanation made it easy for me. In case you are interested Financial Rebellion is all about helping business owners to understand their financial information - overcome all the fears and frames that they hold and curiously proceed into a new knowing !!

You were spot on at the start, I do character designs and require myself to understand the mechanisms of something authentically before implementing it. Thank you for this, very informative!

Thanks for the explanation...it really helped me get a clear visual understanding...and "thanks a lot" going out to the commenter who suggested slingshot bows...that's gonna give my mind something to chew on for a while...

Would a slingbow be possible? Would it be worse than either a full bow or full slingshot?

I was actually studying potential energy and there was an experiment in the text relating to archery, so i simply got curious and landed here, only to find out even more physics

Nusensei I’ve been an archer for about 4 years i was would say I was extremely overweight but this gave me a lot of strength and i would shoot 45 pound bow but last year I took a break from archery to become healthier and lost a lot of weight however since I dropped from 90 kg to 65 kg I can not draw my bow back anymore I’ve been training with difficulty I have been working out as well trying to get my strength back I was wondering if I should purchase a new bow( 200-300 aus dollars) my current bow is a bear grizzly 45 pound cost me ( 650 aus dollars ) can’t change the limbs. I’m an Aussie live in Melbourne in Cheltenham so close to your archery club anyway back on topic any tips for me jumping back into my archery days? I want to use my og Grizzly but I think I need to train to pull that back again. Big fan. I wrote this on your most recent video in hopes of a reply.

The most important thing about bows is they do not come in Android, Microsoft or Apple OS varieties....

If I remember, you can actually get a slingshot type that is designed for shooting arrows right? I've not seen much about them so dunno if they are used much or how powerful / accurate they are.

Greetings @nusensei, is it possible to make a bow using leaf spring?

"Knowledge quite easily lost" exactly..
To .. pardon the pun .. Compound the knowledge potentially lost.. look into Kyudo ..
Now THAT is where real knowledge gets lost fast. AND I just read a tiny book about it and picked up a shotgun for possibly the 2nd time and shot like 50 skeet in a row in a competition.. they had to tell me to stop.
There is quite a bit more In archery than just the mechanics... but I reallly love the mechanics..!!! Thank you for this video!!
Oops .. there's the Cessna circling my house again... bastards .. time to go!!!
Thank you'. !!
