In high school, I worked in a donut shop making donuts. It's wasn't uncommon to buy 12 donuts, but get 13. A so-called "bakers dozen". My mom said "A dime a dozen" and "Dollars to donuts" often as we were growing up. Her mid-west roots showing strong.
