She was the perfect fit for granny. She was pretty much the main character.

Irene was too perfect for the role to be fired. She just didn't know it!. Thanks, Bob.

Hello Bob.Thank you very much for sharing this with us about Irene Ryan. She sounds like a very conscientious lady but such a wonderful Granny. Praise God! God bless you and a Happy New Year ahead.

Just goes to show we're all human. Could another actress have filled the role of Granny, and said Grannys lines? Yeah. Could any actress have done it better than Irene Ryan? Nope. No way, not even close. Thanks Uncle Bob!

Insecurity is very common among performers. Some constantly beat themselves up for what they perceive as mistakes when, in reality, nobody even noticed.

That would have been like the Andy Griffith show firing Don Knotts. She was the Beverly Hillbillies.

I guess she had the fear because she understood the fickleness of Hollywood. But I can't see Paul Henning firing her.

Like in any work place, it's the best employees who worry the most, about everything. Talent doesn't come without a price...sometimes neurosis...but without it, some of the greats would not be able to create.
Uncle Bob, I've seen your FB pages...just saw the Dillards' messages. But I don't visit daily, prefer to get my TAGS, TBHB, and CS on YouTube. But...I did go to your personal FB yesterday and said a prayer to your beautiful family Christmas photo. May God shine His healthy blessings on all of you today.

She was so good in that role. Other actors with similar success also had insecurities. We know that she died a year or two after the show ended. How would they have handled that if still on the air? It might have meant the end of the show for sure. I heard she was planning another series at the time of her death. We could really feel her absence in the later reunion projects.

Everyone has insecurities. It's part of being human. I can understand why she might have felt that way though (working in the two-faced world of make-believe). Nothing is guaranteed...not then and certainly not now. Granny Moses is who I love and adore. I don't know the humans who act out the roles and for the most part I don't really want to. (It usually ends in disappointment). That being said; Granny, Uncle Jed, Elly and Jethro are just as much my family as...My Family! :)
